Hi - I had a placental abruption and I was around 32 weeks when they found it. I was put in the hospital at 33 weeks for 3 weeks and then had an emergency csection (related to the placental abruption but mostly because I was running out of amniotic fluid) at 37 weeks. My daughter was born a healthy 9lbs. That is a lot to take so early - I hope everything goes well for you and your baby - easier said than done but try not to worry too much - Im sure your doctors will take extra care of you and just think of all the ultrasounds you will get! Take care and good wishes to you.

This does not sound quiet right. Something is missing from the story... Are they saying they did an ultrasound and was able to see a partial abruption on a 8 week fetal gestation? Are you sure they said "Abruption"? Or were you bleeding and they said it may be a partial abruption???? I am sorry, this is just not adding up and I would like to help you if I can.

I believe it is more commonly called hemorrhaging early on in pregnancy before 20 weeks I had hemorrhaging early on. Lots of bleeding and issues and delivered with no issues at at vaginally. It is called placental abruption most commonly after 20 weeks.

I had something like this with my youngest daughter. I found out that I was pregnant because I had some strange bleeding and knew there was a chance that I was pregnant. My doc got me in right away and did an ultrasound that showed the partial placental abruption. I was immediately put on bed rest. I was on bed rest for just over a month. They did another ultrasound at that point, and everything had healed up fine. My daughter was born at full term and was (and still is!) 100% healthy. Try not to worry too much (I know, fat chance, right?!) because this can heal on its own and everything is fine in the end!

If a placental abruption means that there is an area where your placenta is not firmly attatch to the uterus, my niece just had a over 10 pound baby a few weeks ago (by c-section due to size). They are both well and health.
good luck,
S.

I didn't have that particular problem, but I did have pregnancy induced hypertension (which used to be called toxemia or pre-eclampsia or even eclampsia). I got incredibly sick, was hospitalized near the end of my 2nd trimester, and went into intensive care, with my liver shutting down. To prevent me from going into a coma or worse, they delivered the baby by emergency c-section. He was 10 weeks premature.

Here's the good news: Instead of weighing 2-2 1/2 lbs. like they expected, he was nearly 4 pounds. He weighed 7 pounds by the time his official due date came around. Now he is a very healthy boy going into 8th grade, with no repercussions from his prematurity other than maybe his mild asthma. He has no learning difficulties; in fact, he is extremely intelligent and gets great grades.

Happy endings are always possible! Hang in there in this uncertain time.

I'm so sorry. I hope you make it to viability so they can take the baby. Much love and hope.
