I was going to echo - Kids bop!
EDIT - I was actually listening to pandora kids bop (I had my kids with me) and Katy Perry's Firework song came on - so cute for this!! it is a boy and a girl singing.
Hi Everyone-
I, along with 2 other moms, are putting a slideshow together of alll the 5th graders from the time they entered kindergarteners until 5th grade. We have received many photos via email, discs, and hard copies from parents and previous teachers of theirs. So while one mom is working on that end with the photos, I am working on gathering songs that we'd like to incorporate into our slideshow presentation. This slideshow will be shown to everyone at the end of the year, and each 5th grader will get to have a copy.
Now... back to the music portion of it: If you would take a few minutes to share a song/musician with me that you feel is suitable for this slideshow, please share. I have Googled it, but I am finding some of the songs to be for older students and/or just not liking some of the songs for the slideshow. I want songs that will really work for this grade level. I
would like at least half of the songs be familiar with the kids. Another portion of the songs to be classics that the parents would like to hear. I want fun songs as well as slower songs that kind of set the mood for a look back in time as kindergarteners... so maybe songs that are slower but have a lot of love/compassion in them.... I don't want all the moms crying at the music, but you know... kinda to get them in the mood for a trip down memory lane. We are going to break the slideshow up into grade levels. We will start with a few current photos as 5th graders and then go way back into time with photos as kindergarteners, then 1 st graders, 2nd graders, etc... Oh... and if only one of the versus works, that's fine since we may only record a portion of the songs on our slideshow.
I have a few songs in mind. Yet, I need more. Please share some song choices that you'd love to hear if you received a DVD with photos and songs of your child leaving elementary school. It is so bittersweet, BTW.... (Just thinking that my children (twins) will be all done with elementary school in just a few months!) Gosh... they grow up so fast, don't they?!
Thanks so much!
~Joy

It Won't be Like This for Long by Darius Rucker and I think its called "The Graduation Song" by Vitamin C.
Check out the KidsBop albums, there are many. They are covers of current, fun songs that have been cleaned up for kids.

I would look back at chart toppers for each year and see what you find. Another option would to be use some "kid songs" that maybe they used in K, 1, or 2nd to set the tone and yet not have all the mom's crying.
Try Youtube and type in KidzBop... they are albums done every year with the more popular songs sung by kids. I'm sure you'll find something appropriate for what you want there... Sounds like an awesome project!
Green Day, Time of Your Life. Mostly for the parents, but kids still like it. Not super sappy or slow but will possibly spark some tears! Hard not to cry when you see your kids elementary years summed up in a slideshow, I'd expect crying!
"What a Wonderful World"
"We Are the World" (boy I'm showing my age)
"Imagine" Lenon
I love Rascal Flatts's " My Wish"
Fireflies (really cool nice song for any age). Popular with kids, and at my kids' elementary school. There is a YouTube video of it so you can hear it.
Or something from Jack Johnson (he has MANY songs, for both young and old, and he does kids songs too). He did the music for Curious George for example.
AND this one: "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" by Hawaiian singer Israel Kamakawiwo`ole. His is the most famous/popular version of this. Worldwide and has been on the soundtrack of many movies.
'Here Comes the Sun' by the Beatles.
Waving Flag by K'Naan.
While reading this, the one song I thought of was the "Wear Sunscreen" song...I think the artist is Baz Lurman. It was popular about a decade ago (or more?) and it has a nice message. :-)
Celebrate by Kool and the Gang- a timeless classic that is great for celebratory moments. Also, more recent-It's Gonna be a Good Night-which is only two or three years old and a lot of fun. You've got a friend by James Taylor (also sung by Carole King) and oldie but goodie that will have the moms crying(sorry!).

My granddaughter started Middle school this year. It seems like yesterday her daddy was born.
