So What Happened?

Thanks for all the buying advice! For immediate gratification and lower price, I went with Ikea. The Hobby Lobby & Kohl's near me were sold out. I may get the BPA free molds next summer if I think to plan ahead. Thanks everyone! :)

Don't know if anyone will see this post, since it might be a closed thread... But these popsicle molds on Amazon work great!! (someone said they're BPA free - even better if they are!!)

But Amazon has this "4 for 3 promotion" on certain items. And these are part of that deal. So if you buy anything under their "4 for 3" promotion - you get the 4th (lowest priced item)FREE!! (It even applies to some books too! And I think there's free shipping!!

Look for the print called "Special Offers" underneath the item.

Here's a few good easy recipes for cream pops-
freeze any yogurt, mix in extra friut
mix frozen vanilla yogurt with orange juice
just plain old evaporated milk (surprisingly good!)
mashed bannanas with honey and a little peanut butter
any pure fruit just blend it, pour it and freeze it!
and jello makes great pops too, add more fruit

once you get started you'll think of all kinds of things-a great way to get kids to eat more fruit, and great for teething.

(all of these are good in a bowl too!)

...this is one my mom used to make, and I still make these for myself on occaision, but I'm not sure if it is ok for children now-a-days. Try canned coconut cream-it's like a pina colada with out the rum! you can add some pineapple too!

Actually, you did good going to Ikea since Ikea phased out all their BPA plastics years ago (way ahead of the big media hoopla) so the ones you bought should be just fine in that respect!

Hi S. - I somehow missed your question about the molds - we used those when we were kids. I personally do not know where to find them, but I wanted to mention that XanGo has what they call "Singles" - 1 oz whole fruit mangosteen juice supplement in a small container similar to a Capri Sun. You can put those in the freezer and then cut off the top and kids can eat them like an "otter pop" type of treat, but they are much healthier than traditional popcicles. I have a box of Singles that I can give you to try if you would like. I have my business here on mamasource, and my website is www.referralco-op.com

Wishing you and your family many blessings, good health and much happiness! V. Garnese :o)

You can put anything in a popsicle you want. We got ours years ago through tupperware. Also we used ice cube trays with standing up sticks which you can buy at craft stores like Hobby Lobby or Michaels. Some gal invented something really neat that you can use with any kind of popsicle or ice cream. They are expensive but kids can not drip them down their arms and it was on tv how to make your first million. She said they would be nice to keep in the car when you get a cone or any kind of deal. But I do not know who sells them. I think I may have seen it on the internet. They may have been about 7-8 dollars. Just can not remember where or what they are called. Be nice to get one here and there if you can not afford a bunch at once. G. W

Just throwing this in although I know you were asking about where to buy them and have already gotten them. We have 3 different popsicle trays, a smaller one with 8 (that was a "cheapie" no name brand thing I cant remember where I got several years ago), a "nicer" one with 4 and the popsicle holders have straws to drink the melted drippings that collect at the base of the stick and a big awful one that I think I ordered from somewhere. This big one also has 8 and the mold part of it is layered in 3 sizes (tip thin, middle medium and base is thick) and then you put a metal cover over it and it has slots for popsicle sticks - which I thought would be cool, since it is SO annoying when a popsicle stick breaks. BUT!!! you have to place the popsicle sticks ALL at the exact same angle so that you can lift the lid off in the first place!!! So I never use that one (it is also too big/tall to fit on the shelf in my freezer I usually use for popsicles)

My favorite one is the little cheapy one I got because it is small enough for my son (and small enough for my husband to have two!) What I did with having the 4 covers broken and only 4 covers still existing was have my husband cut it in half! So now I have two small '4-packs' that I can fill, wash and replace more frequently, using either popsicle sticks or the red popsicle sticks.

What we do around here is I make smoothie shakes - especially handy when I've got a lot of fruit on hand (mainly bananas, my husband wont touch them once they get a single freckle on it!) I throw bananas in, fruit (I keep frozen strawberries/berries in the freezer for this! if not using frozen, add ice as well), a scoop or two of lemonade or orange(tang) drink mix (OJ is better but I dont always have it ready made in the fridge), add ice/water and I am finding that is all it takes to make a good smoothie! My husband LOVES it and I am lucky if I have enough left to put into popsicle molds after drinking it! My son likes the popsicle smoothies but not drinking it.

Milk bothers my husband's stomach (he is ok with all other dairy though) so it has been nice to find that adding 2+ bananas balances out the citric acid from the OJ or drink mix without needing milk.

Of course you can always add plain old OJ, drinks, koolaid, etc. Even plain ice popsicles are good for teethers or mouth owies.

Try searching the local Dollar General and Family Dollar stores.. thats where I have gotten mine in the last two summers.. ah, summer may be the key word.. it may be an item only found during hot weather.. you could use ice cube trays with old popsicle sticks.. or small plastic cups with straws or wooden sticks for handles.. I have one for you that I would NOT recommend...there is a hard plastic popsicle mold at Bed, Bath & Beyond (the one with that has the red, blue, green & yellow cup/stick holders that has a straw built-in for the melted popsicle juice)...it cracked & broke after the first use (well, I think they broke when my hubby opened the freezer door too fast & it fell out onto the ground, but even then, shouldn't it be able to withstand one fall?).
