My thoughts are so with you. We did this 19 years ago and I know how stressful it can be.
Please tell us how it goes!
Hi'ya mamas and papas,
After many months of waiting, searching, and paperwork-ing, we have finally arrived at the eve of our first court date. Tomorrow morning there will be an Adequate Cause Hearing. If you have the energy and desire, I would so much appreciate prayers and/or good thoughts for the wellbeing of my niece. Whatever the outcome of our court proceedings, I just want her (and my other little one) to be alright. Anyway, I'll let you all know how it goes. Thank you and hugs all around.

The night of 02/19:
Well, no real news (yet). My sister hasn't responded and wasn't there, but my BIL sent a lawyer to represent him. He had denied adequate cause in response to my petition. Today his lawyer asked for another continuance, and said that they'd be willing to accept that there is adequate cause but that his client wants visitations that build up over time.
We are going to ask that he goes through a professional DV assessment, prof. drug and alcohol assessment, gets random UAs, and that he enrolls in a 12 week long parenting class before he begins visits, and that the visits are professionally supervised in our city. We are also asking that this is all that is granted, for the time being. He has never shown consistency, and to ask for longer amounts of time before he has followed through with short amounts, is not fair. I am feeling pretty hopeful about everything and relieved that the process is finally underway. It's been such a long wait and it's been really hard not knowing how things would end. Right now it seems like all might end well. Thanks for your prayers. I really appreciate that there are so many people holding my niece in their hearts. It helps me feel strong.

Thoughts, prayers and positive energy always to you Ephie dearest.
Sending the good thoughts to you and yours (and the judge's family and life-- let's hope for a good evening for them tonight and a great, clear morning tomorrow for that person and those he/she loves... like to cover all my bases when praying!).
When you do have a chance, please let us know how it goes. We are all rooting for you and your girls!:)
Good luck and of course, prayers
Thinking of you, dear Ephie, sending prayers and positive thoughts your way. So much in hopes of a positive outcome for you!
Hugs!

Ephie:
Good thoughts and prayers coming your way from DC!!!
Stand tall...Remember these words...I may bend, but I will NEVER break. God will NEVER take me through anything I cannot handle.
I may bend but I will NEVER break.
You will rock it.
Sending prayers and you'll be on my mind tomorrow. Hopefully the day will go smoothly and in your favor. When we were in your shoes almost two years ago for my step-daugther, we were there for a motion hearing and expected the judge to hear our motion, grant us the temporary order and schedule another hearing on the permanent custody change later. Her mom didn't show up so he went straight to judgement on the permanent request and granted full custody to my husband. Sometimes courts can grant good surprises and be more generous than expected. Keep positive!
you got it, baby!

Which party is asking for the modification? Judges don't like these proceedings-they like leaving things the way they are-you have probably seen this:
