The boys body book
About the book:
Description: As boys reach adolescence, everything changes: their bodies, their feelings, and their relationships. Their world turns shaky just when they find it hardest to talk with the adults in their lives. But even if they won't say what's on their mind, they still want straight answers.

"The Boy's Body Book" provides them, in a readable, reassuring, and illustrated guide. It covers a boy's every concern: hygiene, exercise, teachers, peer pressure, sex, and siblings. He'll learn about what's going on physically (vocal changes, body hair) and how to handle academic pressures, deal with out-of-control feelings, make new friends, and stay safe through it all.

This invaluable manual is modeled after the blockbuster American Girl(R) title, "The Care and Keeping of You." Boys haven't had thier equivalent and parents, teachers and booksellers have been demanding one. Here it is... and every boy should own it!

We use "the new Learning About Sex" series, with books ranging from age 4 and up. age 6-8 book is "Where Do Babies Come From?". link to this particular book here http://www.amazon.com/Where-Do-Babies-Come-Learning/dp/05... The next book in the series deals more with what you're looking for, I think, tho it's appropriated to ages 9-11: How You Are Changing Link here: http://www.amazon.com/How-You-Are-Changing-Discussion/dp/...

Also, I highly recommend the Preparing for Adolescence series by Dobson for around age 10. There are booksfor the child as well as parents, devotionals, etc as well as a CD series which goes very much in depth from hormone changes to how one's brain begins to function differently to outward physical changes to new needs (eg, 12 hours of sleep instead of 10) to.....everything.

Good luck! :D

I just gave my son "What's Going on Down There" as recommended by someone else below. We had a discussion about several items and I gave him the book, going through the table of contents with him. I asked him to take his time and read through it and in a month I'll sit down and answer any additional questions he has. My son is 11, but I believe honesty is best as soon as they start asking, as I'm hearing some of the things he is being told at school and can't believe what lack of knowledge is out there. After we cover this I am going to give him the girls version and discuss with him what happens to girls so he doesn't listen to all the ridiculous things kids at school say.

The christian bookstore has great age appropriate books for both boys and girls. I got all of mine there. There are separate one's for learning about your body and one's specifically for sex. Good luck.

I don't know if books would be as effective at this age as simply explaining things as he asks. Don't offer more information than he asks about, but give him thorough, honest, and unembarrassed answers. If you are shy about it, just tell him that you are uncomfortable talking about it because you are a shy person, but explain that while natural body processes are private and we should be discreet about them, they happen to everyone!

Usborne books has a good one. I can't remember the name but you can look up Usborne and find it. It also has things in it about the opposite sex if they have questions about that.
