Radiant Barrier - Anyone Had This Done

We are considering having Radiant Barrier put in our attic. Just curious if anyone has done this... was it expensive?... was it worth it? I would also love recommendations of a company to use. Likewise, if you've had a bad experience, I'd like to know who to stay away from. We are in Collin County, so anyone that services this area would be great. Just want to make sure we stick with a reputable company. TIA

What can I do next?

We did not have it done, although we have toyed with the idea. I've heard that the spray on is not as good as another type that in nailed in like some type of foil product. I don't know the facts though....

We did, however, completely replace and upgrade the heating/ac furnace and air ducts a couple years ago and we feel like it was completely worth the investment. We built our home in 2000 and the units the builder used were just undersized and we had regular AC bills of $700+ (4000 sq ft) ..we keep ourselves comfortable.

After we re-did all that, my hubby put in about $2000 worth of extra insulation in the attics.

This year, our highest bill SO FAR was $394. We often have the thermostat on 75, I run the washer at least twice a day and dishwasher at least once a day.

We used Collin Air Conditioning in Plano. Brian and his team are great, fair and on time. Very reputable and known in the area.

Hope some of that info helps.

We had radiant barrier, attic fans and more insulation installed a few months ago (R19 to R49). Our electric bills have lowered approx. $135.00 each month since installation compared to last year. In addition we have the thermostat adjusted several degrees cooler since the installation. I don't know the name of the company we used, but they were great, let me know if you want their information and I will ask my husband. At this rate we will have recouped our cost in 10 months.

We had it done about 3 years ago by Efficient Attic Systems. It definitely made a difference in our electric bill, as well as kept the house a little cooler. If I remember correctly, it took 2 guys about 2 1/2 hours to do all of our attic spaces (including over the garage).

As one of the other moms mentioned, our house was also built in 2000 and the a/c the builder put in was never adequate for our house. They also had too many lines feeding off the main line in our upstairs so my daughter's room never cooled down enough. So although the radiant barrier did help ( and I definitely recommend it) we decided to upgrade our whole a/c system last summer. It was a huge investment, but worth every penny. My husband estimates that we're saving about $200-$250 a month now, plus we're so much more comfortable.

We are getting ready to have it put in by the company that did our new AC units a couple years ago. My company actually does their marketing, which is how we found them, and we couldn't be happier with the owner, and his staff. I'm actually making a website for them right now...www.radiantbarrierexpert.com. The company name is KG's Air Conditioning and Heating, but they really do a lot of radiant barrier jobs now, as it is an amazing product. I've been in several attics that they installed (while taking pictures) and every client of theirs just loves them. I'd call Ken with KG's Air at ###-###-#### and he'll come give you a quote to install it. I think you'll be really impressed with him and his company.
