I have a beautiful one week old daughter who has her day and night confused. We are working on fixing that and I remembered that Oprah had a woman on named Pricilla Dunstan in her show the Secret Language of Babies. She talks about 5 "words" that newborns use when crying I think they were like Wah Nah Ahh....one means hunger, one means comfort, one means gas..... ect.....
I have searched Google and the Oprah website (of course I can find where to buy her book I just need the five words and their definations! - TODAY :-)!!) - any help would be gretly appreicatied by this sleep deprived worn out mamma!
If anyone can find it I know the mamasource girls can!!!!!!

What can I do next?

it's a set of DVD's called "dunstan baby language". The Coppell library doesn't have them (your library may) but I got the DVD's through the inter-library loan program. Since the inter-library loan system operates on a discretionary basis (whether or not the owning library is willing to share) and this was featured on Oprah you may have some issues getting it anytime soon.
You can buy it on amazon.com, I looked at getting it before I checked the library, it's about $35 which is kinda pricey for 2 DVD's with about 20 minutes total content HOWEVER, you can't put a price tag on desperation. you should get it. it was very helpful for us. although they have 5 basic cries they actually have babies on the DVD's crying those cries. they all sound slightly different but its helpful because you can hear the difference between all the other cries.
sorry for rambling, hope this helps.
good luck.

I had this recorded on dvr but I had to reset the durn thing and lost it. I remember a couple of them.
eh-was gas as in burp me (this is a short cry)
neh-was hungry
eirh- or something like that is a deep cry and that's lower gas pains

Maybe another Mama has the book can give you more accurate descriptions.

Good luck and congrats!

Here's what I just found on Amazon in a review of the book...

Neh (hunger) was the best one. Eairh (sound babies (and adults, for that matter) make when they are struggling to poop) and Owh (yawn) are totally intuitive no-brainers. And it's next to impossible to distinguish between Eh (upper gas) and Heh (discomfort). So my main take-away was knowing the difference between hunger and not-hunger.

Hey Missy!

I saw that Oprah show, too but mine were way past that stage so I don't remember too much about it but just wanted to say hi and can't wait to meet the new Miss M. Sorry to send Julianna alone the other day but Toby wasn't home and didn't want to bring B&G down to bother you guys. If you need a nap with the baby you know you can let the bigger Miss M come down and play with us for a little while :-) Take care and hope to see you guys soon!
