For all you dance moms...
My daugther has recital next Thrus. How can I keep the oversized cowboy hat on her head and there is another hat type thing that somehow has to sit on top her head. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the advice. I ended up getting clear elastic and pinning it inside both hats and it will strap under her chin. Seems like it will hold in place (Fingers crossed). With a costume change I didn't want to bobbypin too much in her hair since she has to wear a low bun and I don't want hair being pulled out with the hat changes.

Get wide elastic and sew just the bottom edge to the inside of the hat completely around where the hat band is. Stretch it a little as you are sewing. The elastic will stretch for her head to go in and hold it on. If you do not understand my instructions go to cavender's store and look at the cowboy hats in the children's section and you will be able to find some made that way. Good luck.

For the cowboy hat, maybe wearing some type of bandana under the hat (out of sight) might help it stay on. Or you could stitch an elastic head band (like a sweat band) into the inside, which would pull it tighter when on your daughter's head. For the other head piece sitting on top her head, you could either bobby pin all around, or attach a piece of elastic and attach it around a ponytail. Good luck!

I was in dance many years. Bobbie pins are a dancers best friend. They hurt like heck sometimes, but they get the job done!Good luck! B.

Bobby pins! Hair spray. Does the cowboy hat have a tie for around the neck..might have to tighten that.

Good luck!

Foam- like weather stripping- line the rim w/ the sticky tape side and it will form to fit the head- of course secure w/ bobby pins.

LOTS of bobbie pins and elastic for around the neck to keep the hat on; pretty tight though as you do NOT want the thing to flop or come off or worse, come HALF-WAY off during the dance number!

LOL I know it's not advice, but I had to say that your post really caught my attention. Why? Because when I just glanced, I read "rectal costumes" LOL I need some sleep. So glad to see that it really says recital

Is the other hat type thing oval shaped? If so it sits caddy corner on top of the head. Secure with bobbie pins.
