Has anyone every invested in a service to refinish an older tub? We have an old house that we've slowly been restoring and need to do something about one of the bathtubs. We don't want to go with a liner, and can't afford to rip it all out and start from the beginning. The tub is nicked and scratched, and we're considering having it refinished. We've seen lots of ads touting the service but are wondering if it actually looks good and will last more than a few years.
THANKS everyone for the responses. We're going to try and go for it in the spring. Husband wants to have a professional do it, so we'll definitely do the research first. Glad to hear that some have had good results. Cheers!

It does work but do your homework and research the companies you are considering. My MIL had this done and it didin't turn out as good as it should have. After we saw the work, we looked at the bill and his business card and they didn't match, for one. We then did the research and he wasn't licensed. We had no recourse and she was stuck with a so so job. It still looked better than before but not professional/clean at all.
I had a tub of mine re-finished years ago...It was badly scratched up w/ some really deep "grooves"...I had a guy re-finish it for about 300 bucks. The whole trick is that you NOT use it for something like 3 days....after it was done, it looked brand new and still looked new when I moved 3 years later. One point that I will make is that you get the family OUT of there when they are doing it...(perhaps leave one person behind, outside) It is REALLY smelly and toxic. I had a few parrots then that had to be removed for a few days.
but to answer your question...YES, it does work.
A co-worker told me she did it herself. She told me she did it a year ago, but didn't sand the tub well enough, so the glaze didn't stick and last like it should have. When she did it recently, she said the glaze now comes in a spray, so it was much easier.
So, yes it can be done. Yes, it looks great. How long does it last... I have no idea.
