Another mom on here once told me of a great product to protect and shine your floors. Made my 40 year old oak hardwoods look great- Holloway House Quick Shine Floor Finish. I also used on my tile and vinyl flooring. Great stuff.
My Maple hardood floors are only 4 years old but I feel like they're looking pretty scratched up. I do all I can to keep them clean and i have furniture pads on all the chairs but my 3 kids are pretty rough on them. I feel like I want to have them refinished. Is it crazy to think about doing it yet? Should I wait until the kids are older and won't be so rough on them? If so, how old should my youngest be?

I would wait until the kids are older. They will always be rough on them. It's very expensive and MESSY to refinish them so you'll have to consider that too. Maybe wait until the youngest is 10
I would wait. Ours look horrible but with kids thats what you get. One day of hockey on them when I wasn't home sealed their fate....marks ALL over. I am going to wait to do them though until we move.
For refinishing, I'd DEFINITELY wait until the kids are older. Much older.
However, the great thing about real wood floors is that you're able to strip (after you've waxed in the past), wax, and buff them as often as you'd like. Then they're SUPER fun to slide about on in socks for a few days :) :) :) Waxing isn't appropriate for all finish types, but if yours is, Voila! Much less expensive than refinishing, and will really extend the life of your floor (since every time you refinish, you lose a layer of wood. Most modern wood floors can only be refinished 2-4 times before you have to replace the entire floor).
Call a company that cleans wood floors. They will be able to buff (I think that is what it is called) your floors. It will remove the surface scratches and make them all shiny again. It cost a lot less to have this done and will prolonge the life of your floors. It is not recomended to refinish your floors every few years...they won't last forever if you do.
Do your floors have varathane on it?
It protects the floor.
We have it on our hardwood floors.

all the best,

I recently had the hardwood floors in my living/family room refinished. It had been at least 30 years. We could only do the 1 room due to the layout of the house and a place to store the furniture. We had to move out of the house for 3 days.
I would wait many more years.
