Hey Mamas! I'm looking for your favorite roll up or pinwheel recipe. My old coworker used to make pinwheels for potlucks all the time, but I can't seem to replicate it and she's no longer with the company :(.

What's your favorite recipe or ingredients to use? Mayo, sour cream or cream cheese? Turkey, ham or strictly veggies?

EDIT: I'm thinking tortilla type wraps. I'm experimenting with my son's lunch and need a few more ideas.

I won an "exotic hors d'oeuvre" contest with these...not because they are that exotic but because they tasted better than some of the other entries, like armadillo. But they always get gobbled up at parties.

Place ingredients in order listed:

Large tortillas (green, red , white, whatever). Lay out flat
cream cheese shmeared to cover
spinach leaves to cover
shaved turkey
sliced red peppers (1-2 rows across)
white cheddar or cheese of choice (shredded all over or if sliced in one row across)
red onions (sliced thin) ....though for your son's lunch, maybe leave out
Salt and pepper to taste

Roll them up as tightly as possible. (Placing the firmer ingredients in rows facilitates this.) While holding taut, place toothpicks every 3/4 inch or so. Slice in in between to form the pinwheels.

Are we talking the tortillas with meats, cheeses and/or veggies rolled up inside? Or something else?

I make a roll up using pork chops. I pound the pork down until it's thin. I put different veggies inside of it, then roll it up. I then wrap bacon around it. I've done it with chicken (making a cordon bleu type dinner), and I've also done it with turkey.

Here is my recipe, except I never use pimentos. It's awesome. It was in my hidden valley recipes for kids cookbook I got at the state fair a few years ago.

I make many, many variations on this recipe:

salami, chopped pepperoncini, minced red onion, chopped black olives, & the dressing is either creamy Italian or Ken's sweet onion. Oh, a spinach leaves!

combine fat-free cream cheese, some salsa, & a pkt of taco seasoning. Top with minced onion & some fiesta mix shredded cheese.

Again, the Ken's sweet onion dressing. Shaved smoked turkey, Italian blend shredded cheese, & some spinach leaves.

fat-free cream cheese blended with Caesar/Italian dressing. Top with a chopped salad of: lettuce mix, radishes, cucs, broc, caulifl, etc. Yumm.

For this recipe, pretty much anything goes....I make them with/without meat. I make them with a variety of dressings & toppings. I usually match it to the rest of the meal or potluck.....& the seasons!

I have a cooked version made with puff pastry which is delicious! Get a few sheets of frozen puff pastry, spread them with pizza sauce or tomato paste, then add your favourite antipasto ingredients such as sun dried tomatoes, artichoke hearts, shredded cheese etc. Then roll up, cut into pinwheels and pop it in the oven till puffed and baked.

My favorite is cream cheese, green onions, garlic powder, and red pepper to taste. Wrap them in the jalepeno cheddar flavored tortillas. Yummy! I'm not sure a kiddo would like them though.
