We stayed there about 6 years ago and it was fantastic! Private cabin, hot tub on the patio, stars, stars, stars, and wildlife. Total getaway.
Hello All, My hubby just shared with me that he had been checking into a 3 day cruise for us to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary in September. Unfortunately he realized that I do not have a pass port, so he says a cruise is out.
What destination suggestions do you have for us?
Just a quick get away.
Thanks, M.

Why don't you get a passport? You should have plenty of time and if you have a trip already in place they can usually put you on a faster track.
Otherwise, Lake Alpine in California is incredible. When I was there a few summers ago, it really wasn't crowded at all. It's at the top of a mountain so the water is crystal clear, the local food is great, and the cabins are walking distance. Well, they were when I was there. Things change pretty fast sometimes, yes?
My heart misses that lake. I plan to take my hubby there someday. :-)
My husband and I just got back from a great trip to Mackinac Island, near the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It was absolutely gorgeous and quite charming. Mackinac has no cars on the island and transportation is done via horse-drawn carriages, bikes or walking. There are plenty of quaint B&Bs and small hotels, as well as The Grand Hotel. Also lots of fun stores and restaurants. We drove from KC and it was 15 hours i think, but you could fly to Chicago or Grand Rapids and then drive a few hours from there. Absolutely a beautiful place to stay and very romantic.
congrats on 20 years!!
I agree with getting an expedited passport! Even if you don't go that route for this trip, I'd go ahead and get your passport now so that next time you want to cruise or whatever, you have it! My husband and I don't seem to plan very far in advance either so I've found it handy to have mine, I even got the kids' last year too, just in case! ;) If you do though, do it right now!!! It's really easy, just kinda expensive.
If you don't do it then I like the bed and breakfast idea. Wine country in California is a good suggestion. Seattle is really great too and you could have a blast over a long weekend. If you want sunny and warm though, I'd go to Florida probably. Anywhere along the beach would be fantastic!
What about Puerto Rico? I would love to go there!
I am a huge fan of cruising, and in fact, am going on my umteenth weekend cruise in October. You don't have to miss it. Do as other say, and get an expedited passport. Frankly, I think if you order it today, you could have it in plenty of time. Be sure to fill out your passport application on-line and print it out...it creates a bar code that makes it go faster through the system. Also, Costco & AAA offices take very inexpensive passport photos.
Buy trip insurance to cover you in case it doesn't arrive on time. Happy travels!!
South Beach Miami, we go there alot. It's great walking on the main drag, lots of great restaurants and of course the beach. You can make anywhere romantic if you want too.
If you like wine I would suggest a bed and breakfast in Sonoma, CA. We went there for part of our honeymoon and loved it! We stayed in this amazing B&B called Cottage Grove. It was basically a private home that had converted a carriage house and a garage into two B&B rooms. Our room was all private with a 4 poster bed, our own living room, kitchen and jacuzzi. Plus we were on a mountain in the middle of a vineyard. During the days we wine tasted in Sonoma and the Russian River Valley. It was in Glen Ellen, CA. And the Glen Ellen Inn was a few miles away with amazing food. Valley of the Moon was a winery within a few miles and had amazing wine. I hope the place is still there since I've been married almost 10 years, I'd love to go back someday.
You can request an expedited passport at the post office. Sure you may have to pay a little more but I believe its worth it. I was thinking you can do a cruise from San Diego to Mexico? I'm not sure if a passport is required now or not. Good luck!
Our passport only took about 3 week to arrive. Get your picture taken at Walgreens, go to the Post office to pick up/turn in the forms. They will mail them and it only takes a few weeks.
Find a bed and breakfast somewhere. Thats what my husband and I are doing for our anniversary in September (Though I can't say it's be 20 yrs. Thats awesome!)
Anyways, our room has a hot tub, we get dinner and champagne, and a big breakfast. You don't have to go far to have fun and recharge!
Congrats and have fun :)
You can have the passport expidited - I know someone who got it in just a couple of days.
If you are going to cruise make it a 5-7 day one. 3 is way too short to enjoy it all - it will take you that long to just figure out the ship! Cruises - in my oppinion - are the ONLY real vacation!!! You don't lift a finger, there is good food everywhere, your room is always being cleaned for you and there is shopping, pools, shows, interesting classes and talks, sightseeing, more shopping on shore... enjoy!
You can get a passport rushed. I know someone who did it when they won a trip to Jamaica. I wouldn't count that out!
Get the passport, you can have it rushed. That is something I will always have, a valid passport.
You still have time to get a passport if you get on it right now!
Can you get a passport?
My husband and I just spent 3 days in Breckenridge, Colorado and we had a BLAST. We went ATV riding one day, horseback riding one day and then just walked and shopped the last day while going out to dinner nightly. If we had another day we were going to go zip lining. What a beautiful state! Absolutely amazing views and perfect weather. If you wait till oct, you might be able to ski! Another place I want to go to with my hubby is New York City. Our country is so beautiful and with so many things to do. You can even pick a few states and google things to do and see what you like.
Other than that, you can always go to Cali and go to the beach, Hawaii, Key West, it just depends on if you want a beach or mountains, etc You could rent a camper and go for a week and stop at a few places, that is our next dream vacation. or do you like fun things like Disney? Decide what you guys like to do and then do searches on that. Congrats to you both!
There are cruises that go up the West Coast and there's another that does the fall color/New England side. You might check into those. May or may not go into Canada.
What about St Croiux or somewhere in the Virgin Islands? They are US owned islands and a passport isn't necessary. I would like for my hubby & I to go there for our 10 year. Congrats on 20 years! Let us know where you decide!
CONGRATULATIONS on your 20TH ANNIVERSARY ! ! !
Your husband must really love you and think romantically to have thought of the cruise. You are a lucky lady.
From Olathe, I would take a river cruise on the Mississippi. Or apply for your passport right now, have it sent rushed and go on a cruise in October or November.
Get your Passport. They are good for 10 years and real easy to renew.
I've been on 17 cruises. A three day cruise doesn't give you much to go on. I'd do a 7 day cruise. Its 10 times the fun.
Good luck to you and yours.
