Seeking an Experienced Professional Coach in My Area

Hi Moms,

I am in real need of a coach, preferably someone very experienced
and possibly with a counseling background. I need
support and on a practical level figure out how to get really important things accomplished.
I would like to find someone who is in my geographical area (Evanston/
Wilmette/Glenview/Rogers Park) unless they work exclusively on the phone.

Additionally, is there anyone out there who is also extremely challenged
since being at home (I'm here FT 12 years and still can't make it work).
I can't believe how incomplete every area of my life is, maybe because I
wasn't prepared for this life -- just to make "A's" in school!?! I just
can't seem to keep all of the balls in the air -- health,
financial, self-care, family meals, organizational, projects, etc. I'm
talking basics. I'm also a much older mom, so my energy isn't what I would
like it to be. I just began a workout program and there went ALL of my
time during pre-school! I'd like to work some, but I just started tackling
100+ pounds and my son is almost two years away from full-time school.

Tell me I'm not alone! (And I'll still take that coach recommendation!)

So What Happened?

Well, it's a little early to say. However, I just found out about and signed up for a group teleclass for women with a local coach on reducing frustration through better time management. It starts tonight for six months! It's affordable and timely. I will keep your coach recommendations and appreciate your empathy. The class is recommended by a friend who's taken it, so I feel good about making this commitment. I like that the goal is about reducing stress as I am all about being healthy right now. Thank you, moms.

First, You are not alone. That is exactly what coaches do, help find the balance. If you were alone they would not exist!

Try Victoria Cook

I had some sessions with her and she is very calming but yet helps you figure out exactly where you are headed. I worked with her on the phone and it was great.

Tell her I sent you her name. You can also learn more about her on her website. Definitely sign up for her email list.I still get things from her that help.

You are absolutely not alone. It's so much to juggle. Good for you for asking for the help you need. That's a huge step and a really important one.

If you're still looking for recommendations, I've worked with Julia Fabris McBride and loved her. She's based in Kansas and does all her work over the phone. She's helped me with financial, parenting, work and self care issues. She's also a mom.

Keep taking those steps to take care of yourself. We're all proud of you for making it this far!

You are most definitely not alone. I was a SAHM for 20 years and it can be quite challenging to juggle all the roles you describe.

Hi B.. I'm a fellow older mom who has found some things that work for our family.

In terms of keeping it all together at home, I would recommend the FlyLady. www.flylady.net. She has a (free) system of spending just a little time each day to keep the house tidy, then one day a week to "bless the house" for one hour. Each week is dedicated to an area, and each day a particular task. 15 minutes is about it each day.

She recommends building a menu for the week and going grocery shopping once for the week. This has been a life saver for my family.

We do one load of laundry a day to keep up.

She recommends getting rid of clutter. We've made great progress, but still have a ways to go.

She also has friends. The one friend I've just joined is Jonathan for the No Excuses Workouts. Look for his link from FlyLady. The idea here is to start small, but doing something nearly every day. So 3 days a week it's cardio, and then 2 days a week it's a strength training (starting at 6 minutes). For the cardio, it's about doing intervals to bring the heart rate up for a few minutes, recover, then do it again. You're done in 25 minutes! I started exercising for only 10 minutes each night, but have built up to more. I've been watching what I eat as well, and I'm losing weight with excercising only a little bit each day. You can get Johnathan's e-mails and do his stuff for free, or he has a system you can buy.

Through all this my life is becoming more organized each day.

The e-mails from flylady can get to be overwhelming - so I'd recommend checking her website each day instead. Both she and Johnathan are through BigTent, and I'm sure there are links on her web site for it.

Best of luck!

B.,
You are not alone. When I had my son I thought I would loose my mind trying to balance him plus everything that went along with the house. Start small, get a dry erase board. Create a schedule for yourself. Buy a cheap notebook to journal, that'll help with the frustration of doing so much- journal about it before bed. If you journal before bed, you'll feel as if you'll be leaving some of the lost energy behind. Plan meals ahead of time! When you make the grocery list, create a meal list from that. Get up in the morning 45 minutes (at least) before everyone else. This will give you coffeee time and breathing time. I am not a coach, but I hope some of what I say helps.Hang in there

Hi B.,

I would love to talk with you about your need for a life coach. First of all, you are not alone. Many moms are struggling with the same issues you are. I have been coaching moms for 5 years now on the very issues you describe. I am in the Chicagoland area (Aurora, IL), and most of the coaching I do is over the telephone. Please take a few moments to explore my website, and feel free to give me a call with any questions you have. Here is my website:

Hi B.-

You are not alone! After working for 17 years in financial services I never thought that being home full time with just one child would be so difficult. I have a very hard time juggling housework, my daughters needs, meal planning, shopping, financial planning, self care, pet needs, family and friends and spouse time. I really do need my hour at night by myself to decompress. I meditate sometimes but usually read. You need to take care of yourself in order to care for others.

I do also have the name of a great life coach. I worked with her in the financial services industry and she has always been an inspiration and positive role model for me. She is the best listener I've ever met. Her name is Megan Walls and her number is ###-###-####. You can view her web site at ____@____.com.

I'm also not too far from you if you ever want to meet for coffee or chat.
