Seeking Caretaker for Father

This is a tall order, I understand, but by 91 year old Father has Altzheimers and it is really beginning to drain my Mom who's his only caretaker. Does anybody know where to find a Ukrainian, Russian or Polish-speaking caretaker who has experience with Altzheimers or dementia? We really would like to enjoy our father/grandfather when we are with him, and not just be stressing over the mundane details. Thanks ladies!

You could likely call a Homecare type service, such as Heartland. I unfortunately don't know much about different companies here in Chicago area, but generally Hospice/Homecares will help provide connections to quality, safe, certified caregivers.
The only problem I see with placing an ad is getting someone who is not qualified, yet claims to be. Working with some type of agency or organization that could maybe even bill Medicare would be safest for you. There are a lot of scammers in this industry, so check resources.

Good luck.

My friend runs a business doing this. She hires Polish people I'm sure of, the other languages, you need to ask her. The phone number is: ###-###-####. Her name is Teresa and she is Polish. You should get the business answering machine if they don't pick up.

Hi O.,
I found a babysitter and had a lot of responces after posting an ad in the bakery in the Ukrainian willage. If you or your parents can write an ad in Ukrainian or Polish you can get people calling you directly and save agency fee!

Hi O.,

We were just interviewing several caretakers for my mother (who has an atypical Parkinsonian disease) from an agency that is staffed mainly with Ukrainian folks. You can try them.http://intercarechicago.com/

Good luck!

I would call Jewish Family Services because they have people who speak Russian that they place in jobs. For Polish speaking you can look in the Chicago newspaper.

Someone in my family went thru this and you are going to have to put him in a nursing home. I suggest you start getting your Mom use to the idea now because it is probably hard for her to let go. And to start looking for a good place for him.
I really don't like these places, but the good ones are more equipped to handle him. Hopefully there are some that cater just to Altzheimers patients.

The best to you and your family. This must be a difficult time for all of you, especially your Mom.

Hi O., Does your father live in Cook County? I work at the Area Agency on Aging for suburban Cook County, and I'd be happy to provide you with referrals so that he can get the assistance he needs. If you'd like, send me a message with your personal email address, and I'll email you the referrals. Even if he is outside Cook Co, we may have some referrals. Have a great day.

Put an ad in the Polish newspaper if you don't have any candidates respond from this site. Good luck!

Hi O.,
Try calling the Alzheimer's Association Helpline for referrals. 1-800-272-3900...good luck! I know it's a tough disease and even harder when it gets to the point of not being able to care for the person living with the disease.
