Seeking Good Sledding Spots in DuPage Co.

My two children are interested in sledding. We have a very steep sledding hill close to our home but I am concerned about their safety on such a steep slope. Last year an older child was seriously injured on it. So I am looking for those hidden neighborhood places with a milder slope. Forest preserves, parks, etc. I believe Northside Park in Wheaton has one...I think. I am willing to travel to nearby communities. Also, nearby parking is helpful for warming up cold fingers and toes. Trying to be prepared for those sure to come, much loved SNOW DAYS!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone for your ideas. I can't wait to check out these places. Incidentally, I just learned that Northside Park sledding hill and warming center are not in operation this season due to park construction.

Mt. Hoy in Blackwell Forest Preserve has a tubing hill. You have to rent a tube (I think they are about $5 for the day). They have staff at the top of the hill and the bottom of the hill to make sure everyone is being safe. The only thing is that it gets tiring walking up the hill - but's it's good exercise. Also most of the park districts in the area have sled hills. You should be able to find out more information online. I know Naperville has information about their sled hills online.

Northside park DOES have a big hill. What you can also do is find a retention basin/park in neighborhoods. The slopes aren't as steep but they are fun and the kids slide towards the middle, not towards a street or fence. There's a big one in Wheaton where President and Blanchard meet, one across from Scottdale Park, some slopey aread at Scottdale Park. Sometimes the little retention parks are hidden, you can do a google/terrain search around where you live to find those spaces, then check them out by car. Good luck!

Hi Michelle,

Sunset Knoll and Four Seasons in Lombard (part of their park district) have sledding. So does Newton Park in Glen Ellyn. I think Newton Park is over by 53 & Roosevelt, and Sunset Knoll is by Finley and Wilson. You can get specifics on the park district websites. Hope this helps!
