Hi Mamas:

So, I'm going to someone else's house this year and was asked to bring Apple Pie and another favorite dish. I want to make it as homemade as possible but not have to knead dough or core apples. Don't want to buy a pre-made pie either. So, I need something in between that is simple. Thanks Mamas!

Happy Thanksgiving...

What can I do next?

Well then, you can buy pre-made pie crusts and apple pie filling. Not homemade, but a little more homemade than a totally store bought pie. Easy apple pie recipe will be on the back of the apple pie filling can.

Or, you can buy a few bags of pre-sliced apples to make it more homemade and delicious.

I don't know of any apple pie recipes where you don't core or peel the apples. Only thing I can think of is to core an apple, and fill the middle with brown sugar and butter and bake at 350 until soft about 25 minutes. You can top this with whipped cream as a treat. It's very informal, but doesn't need a crust and you don't have to slice it...just core it.

Otherwise, check out the produce section at the grocery store for pre-cored, peeled, and sliced apples in a snack pack...you know for lunch boxes and such. Grab a pack of pillsbury pie dough or a pet ritz brand frozen pie shell from the dairy or frozen pie section of the store, add apples to the shell and apple slices, flour and apple pie spice (sold as such in the spice section) and bake for half an hour.

One other option use precut and sliced apples and make an apple crisp. Just spread apples mixed with brown sugar and cinnamon in a pan and top with uncooked oat meal and pats of butter and bake until crisp.

While you can probably get away with a store-bought crust (Pillsbury isn't bad) the apple pie filling in a can is pretty nasty. If you can find peeled and cored sliced apples that don't cost a fortune (you'll need a ton of them) then great but otherwise, I would get something like Mrs. Smith's pie from the frozen section and just bake and bring that. My mom is sick of making pies and serves those sometimes and they really are quite good.

FWIW, a delicious pie crust is really easy to make if you have a food processor. Look up Martha Stewart's "Perfect Pate Brisee." It literally takes less than a minute and has 5 ingredients (flour, butter, sugar, salt and ice water). Then you just chill it and roll it out. It's amazing!

Yes the dough does need to be kneaded but only slightly and if you wish for a Homemade Apple Pie, then YES THE APPLES MUST BE CORED.

Keep in mind that frozen apples can be grainy and canned pie filling are primarily made up of sugar, HFCS and nasty mushy fruits/apples
