Just curious - any moms here work for the postal service and know?
I think it depends on where you are and how you address them. Here in Alaska they go to the Santa house in the North Pole (North Pole Alaska, it is a real town), and they answer as many as they can. It is nice since my boys have been there and met Santa in his own house, and the reindeer in their stables ect..., it is easy for them to believe :)

they go to santa claus silly :) our town used to put them in the town paper it was cool to read them all misspelled and everything.

Not sure. I have 4 sealed letters to my Father and Grandmother from my two nieces and my younger sisters. They stamped them with magazine stamps that you use to order particular magazines. They have both passed and I have no idea what is in the letters. I think of giving the letters back to them, but am afraid it will be too emotional.
I know off the subject of Santa Letters, but still letters that don't make it to their destination due to circumstances. The magazine stickers actually say Holiday issue, so they must have been written about this time of year.
My friend lives in Santa Clause, IN and she says that their post office is one place that letters to Santa go. I think there is a place in PN or somewhere in the northeast that they go also.
One year I went by our city's Post Office and picked up some "Santa" letters to respond to. The PO divides the letters between "needy" and not-needy" and people can come in and "adopt" a needy letter and buy gifts for the child. We got the letters from the not-needy children and wrote letters back to the children from Santa thanking them for their letters. This was in San Francisco in the early 1990's.
In the town we live in, there is a Santa House...all the letters that the local kids write to Santa go to the Santa House and are displayed on a huge table in the middle of the house. Kids think it's great if they find the letter that they wrote.
