Spot of Tiny Colorless Bumps on 1.5 Year Old's Knee, What Is It?

My son had a rash on his elbows that looked like and the docotr said it was scabies. I was horrified but we did the treatment and it went away.

Hi W.-I saw the pics, but not sure what it could be. My suggestion would be to take him in to see his regular doctor who then may refer you to a dermatologist. Since it is spreading, I would take your son in sooner rather than later.

It does look like molluscum contagiosum. Your pediatrician can make a proper diagnosis and let you know how to properly care for it.

Take her to the pediatrician / dermatologist to get checked out, but most likely it is not something that you need to worry about.
If it's not molluscum (although it looks like it), it might be what my daughter had: some sort of a residual thing from a cold virus. Basically the virus stays in the little one's body and causes these bumps for quite a while. They will spread, but thank goodness they do not itch. It took close to 2 months for my daughter's to go away.

If this is what they are, my daughter had them at about that age. They can take a long time to go away, but don't cause any issues, usually. If they start to itch, or get red or infected, then you would want your doctor to look at them. Be sure not to scratch or pick at them, cuz then they will leave little scars. They can be spread from person to person, but that did not happen in our household and we didn't take any precautions, at all.

My son had molluscum at that age which looked just like that. His bumps were spread around one eye. They looked like little white pimples (about 30) that didn't go away on their own so I took him to the doctor. The doctor confirmed it was molluscum and actually told me to pop them just like zits! I had him demonstrate on one (painful and had to be dug out with nail-sort of bled). Every day I would pop one or two or three, depending how much my son could take while my husband held his head prone and I squeezed them! Then I'd give my son some chocolate or something as a treat because it was sort of traumatic being around his eye and all-very painful to squeeze there. Anyway, they went away quickly once the little sores healed and never came back. He has no scars.

DON'T pop them or anything until you see a doctor to be sure this is what they are and then follow doctor's advice.

I saw several suggestions of molluscum. My son had these. Per doctor's orders, don't let him share a bath or towels with any other family members. It can be spread that way. Also, DO NOT let the doctor put the liquid on them that is supposed to get rid of them. The dermatolgist did this to my son and now he has 2 scars on his chest that look like cigarette burn scars. They only treated those because they were larger than the rest. After that fiasco, we took the wait and see approach. The rest cleared up in about 6 months.

Looks like Molluscom - a virus that gets in the body and there really is no medicine for. they can put some stuff like wart removal on them (DO NOT GO BUY WART REMOVAL OTC MEDS!) and remove them that way - they can clear up in as little as 2 weeks and as long as 18 months.

Talk to your pediatrician or dermatologist about how they want to handle it. Maybe verify that it IS molluscum.
