I'm hoping some of you other moms out there have already attended the 2008 State Fair of Texas. We are taking our 23 month old son this week and would appreciate any advice on "must see" events at the Fair. I've printed the list of daily activities and several of the shows overlap. So please let me know which shows, exhibits, events we should make a priority for our little guy. Which ones did your toddler just love? Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

You probably would want to take your child to the dog show- I think they still have the flying dogs (catch frisbees) and the Australian shepherds who corral the sheep. Then you can go next door to the petting zoo. A little bit farther down you can go to the horse stables and see the horses. The bird show is also a great show as they have trained parrots who sing and big hawks who fly down from the ferris wheel. After the bird show you can go to the butterfly show and be in the same habitat as the butterflies. Pretty interesting. I don't know if they are doing the card stacking guy in the African American Museum on the second floor, but we went last year and he was pretty amazing. We are also going this weekend so I am not sure what shows are available yet. Have fun and I hope a few of these work out for you. You also might take him to the butter sculpture in the Embarcadero building. You could run in there when you are at the dog shows or after the petting zoo.

We took my daughter at about age 18 months. I found she didn't do as well with things like the dog show or the bird show where you have to go in early and sit and wait. She did better with the outside entertainment (the bagpipes, the acrobats, the dancers.) She also really liked the ferris wheel.

If you're not already planning to - take your stroller! It is a pain to manuever it, but my daughter fell asleep in it by the end of the day and it was much easier than trying to carry her.l

The "Little Hands on the Farm" is a must do with kiddos. It's free & close to the petting zoo.

we did not take our little one, but the free bird show was great! I think your little man would enjoy it -- it's free so no harm done if he doesn't enjoy it.
