Good morning, Tuesday our family went to eat dinner then we went to soccer practice, everything and everyone felt fine. However that night my stomach got very upset and my 6 yr old came to me complaining that his stomach hurt too. As the night went on, it got very severe as far as the pain level. He had vomiting as well, but I did not have it. I was certain that we both got food poisoning from the place we had dinner. But we didn't eat the same thing. Anyway we made it through a very rough night, and the next day I went to work and he went to school. Both exhausted but no pains. Then last night his stomach pains returned quite severe and we took him to Urgent Care to have him looked at. He's negative for strep. The doctor thinks its either food poisoning or a stomach virus, in either case she said it just needs to take its course. She gave him a medication for the vomiting, which I have to add that it dosen't work. Last night was horrible for him, he woke up every hour screaming, thats how severe the pain was. I don't know what else to do.
If he has to just ride it out, please tell me what to do to make it better for him to deal with this. It kills me to see my 6yr old go through this.
Any home remendies, suggestions, anything....

So What Happened?

Thanks ladies for your suggestions, I really appreciate it. Well last night we spent 6 hours at the ER. We took him in because it was getting worse instead of better and I had a hard time letting it 'run its course' as the doctor stated to do. He has virul gastroenteritis. He was put on an IV for dehydration, and they gave him a suppository for the nausea. He was prescibed tylenol with codiene for the pain. We left the ER at midnight last night and he slept the whole night until 8:30 this morning. Last night he didn't experience any pain and currently is not in any pain. We haven't given him any of the tylenol w/codiene, because he hasn't needed it. Just the IV and the suppository alone has done him a world of good .
He's home today resting and recovering.
Thanks again ladies for your response. Mom's doing better too. :) I'm always ok as long as my baby's ok. When a child is so sick and you feel helpless, its a gut wrenching feeling. thanks for coming to my resue. :)

I know how badly you feel for your little boy. If this is a passing thing, Shaklee Stomach Soothing Complex will most likely help. I talked to a mom two weeks ago who crushed the tablets and gave them to her six month old with good results. I am a Shaklee Distributor in Austin and can get a bottle to you if you call or email me. ###-###-####. ____@____.com Stomach Soothing Complex is a combination of Peppermint, Ginger, Fennel, and Anise and as all Shaklee products are, it is guaranteed to your satisfaction.

Google "Shigella" fyi. Hopefully, by the time you read this, your son will be over his tummy upset. Since you have not had more trouble yourself, I think there is a good chance this will happen. If it hangs on, there is a prescription that begins with an A and I cannot remember the name of it just now. I hope you won't need it but it is good to know about. My bil had it in 1983. He is a dentist and it took a while for him to find out what he had. Eventually, he did the culture test himself and diagnosed the problem. Because of his experience, when I got sick six months later, I recognized the symptoms. My doctor sent cultures to the hospital lab twice with unsatisfactory results. Then, he grew the cultures himself and made the diagnosis. I got the name of the medicine my bil had used and it worked but I spent a miserable two months before I was finally rid of the episode. Best wishes. I hope you will let me know how your son is doing. B.

Camille - I hope you don't need this home remedy any longer, but for the future, try ginger.

You can get it in the grocery store, in the spice section. Get the whole crystalized ginger. You only need to give one or two small pieces at a time, but it has really worked in our house in the past when these situations come up.

BTW-just yesterday there were news reports that Dr's are reporting amazing results by having chemo patients take some a few days before chemo and they are much less nauseated following treatment.

Also, ginger ale soda helps too. but i would try the ginger pieces first. Just keep the jar of ginger around and a 6-pack of ginger ale in the pantry for future use.

Hope this gets better and I hope this suggestion helps some
