Ok brilliant moms.........I need your help. I participate in a semi-annual consignment sale. Therefore, I keep every single hanger that comes home from the store. I'm looking for a neat and organized way to store hangers. Currently, I rubberband each type of hanger together.......like pants hangers, normal hangers, outfit hangers. However, even rubberbanding them together is a big ol' jumbled mess! Does anyone have a good way to store hangers?? I feel like there's gotta be a way that I'm just not thinking of.....

What can I do next?

If you want to invest in something "Organize-it" has a storage holder. http://www.organizeit.com/pohangerstand2.asp?rtnFile=hang... . Solutions catalog online also has an item called the hanger hamper and they are relatively inexpensive....probably Solutions.com.

In stores we receive hangers in boxes for the factory. They come in 20x20 boxes and about 3 feet tall. They have a cardboard divider at an angle.. in the center.. Poster board would work.. So you look into the box it looks like 2 triangles.. You then lay the hangers so the the hook portion of the hangers are facing the corners of the box..

I suggest you separate wire hangers from the plastic ones.. This way they are less likely to tangle. And of course shirt hangers from Pant hangers will need to be sorted..

Of course if you had a system of hanging PVC pipe or metal pipe in rows from floor to ceiling it would be ideal.. Then you just use a shepherds hook to pull down or hang up groups of hangers in rows and rows.. ..

We have a clothes rod at the very top of our closet...almost touching the ceiling. I put mine there and save them. They are out of the way, because this would otherwise be wasted space. Depending on the space you have, you could buy a tension shower curtain rod and do the same.

I take the ever multiplying supply of plastic grocery bags and put them to use for this purpose. I rip a hole in the bottom center of the bag. Insert the hooks of the hangers through the hole, contain the body of the hangers in the bag itself and then tie the handles together to secure. The hooks are the only things exposed. It makes the hangers easy to sort, hang and/or box for future use. I have found thicker bags work better than thin bags. But I have also found double or triple bagging works too.

Could you just hang them in groups on a ceiling pipe in the garage or basement?
I had to laugh b/c I have a friend who is always trying to score hangers at consignment time! LOL

when you purchase items at a dept store- they take it off the hanger and slide the hanger onto a rack sitting on the floor. Would that help you? Try googleing hanger racks and I think you can purchase them.

are you rubber banding them at the hook/neck only? If you band it at the neck and around under the neck, and even at both corners, they won't be as loose and can be stacked in a box nicely, it will be compact and easy to store. This is how we had to do it when I worked at a dry cleaners and in retail as a teen.

like this, but with a rubber band:

Get a wardrobe Box and add bars hang them in there and keep the box from being shaken around too badly. If keeping the box stable is difficult get som pipe insultion (styrofoam shaped like a pipe with a slit sown 1 side so you can wrap it around) Plave this over the bar and hanger tops so they are reinforced.

Good luck

You could rubber band them then put each stack of hangers in large Ziploc storage bags so they don't get tangled with the other stacks of hangers.

I tape mine in groups of 10...3 tape spots, one by the top (hanging part) and one on each side of the bottom, hope this helps!
