Sounds like my first pregnancy. :) that said, my cycle had gotten strange as well as I have approached my 40's. Best wishes.
I will preface this by saying that I realize none of you are doctors. I am not one to run to the doctor over every little thing.
I try to avoid going to the doctor if at all possible.
I am having an abnormal cycle this month. I started on Monday with some brownish discharge. Since then, I've only had a bit of brown blood when I wipe. I've had barely anything on the pad. It's been 4 days of this. I normally have heavy bleeding starting on day 2. I had some cramping the first two days, but that has subsided.
Has anyone had a cycle like this? Did it return to normal the next month?
I'm almost 39 and have had periods since I was 12. This is the first time I've had one like this.
Thanks all! I was planning to pick up a pregnancy test today, but I woke up to it being a normal period-finally. I hope it goes back to normal next month, but I guess I could be starting peri menopause. My mom started in her early 40's and it lasted 10 years!

I agree that if you are not pregnant, it's probably peri menopause.
Welcome to the club :-). Sigh
Now it becomes a whole new adventure
I would also suggest writing your information down and have a running log of it all. If and when you see your doctor, it's easier to see a pattern and give accurate info. then try to remember the different months/weeks.
I agree with B, in that 39 is definitely NOT too young for PM... the brown is indicative of older blood... and too, could also be a sign that your Estrogen is dropped off slightly and therefore, you don't have as much of an endometrium wall to shed.. however, you won't know for sure unless you took a hormone test to see where you are at in this stage of the game.
Once you find out where you stand hormonally, there is a ton of info on the net. I am 50 and since beginning PM in my early 40s, the net has proven to be VERY helpful..
good luck :)
39 is not too young for peri-menopause to start up.
It can start very gradually - maybe one slightly off period and you'll be normal again for a long time.
Eventually you'll have a hot flash - and you'll know your days of menstrual regularity are numbered.
I have had many like this. It starts out slowly for days and then comes normally for a few days. It could be an age thing?
It could be any number of things:
* stress altering your cycles
* implantation bleeding from pregnancy
* natural changes to the cycle that happens as you age, etc.
Lots of different possibilities
My cycles have been very off since having Baby #4 10 months ago. I once had 28 day clockwork cycles. Now they are anywhere from 27-32 days, sometimes VERY heavy for a day or two, then just old blood discharge for several days, etc. Eventually it'll work itself out, and if not, I'll talk to my Gyn.
Have you done a pregnancy test?
Yes, I've had cycles like that. They were not indicative of a problem. I know because I've had to see the ob/gyn often.
If you haven't already, take a pregnancy test.
I actually had one exactly like the one you described two months ago. I'm always extremely regular, so I was stressing out about it, but it came back totally normally the next month (a week early though).
