I am about 9 weeks prego and have really bad all day nausea. The worst part is at night. Does anyone have any suggestions to ease or get rid of the nausea?
J.,
The good news is, if you're feeling bad, that's usually a good sign that the baby is doing well. When I was pregnant with my daughter, I was trying the usual bland foods...crackers and mashed potatoes, and it wasn't working. Then I discovered that having some PROTEIN would help a lot more....so I was snacking on beef jerky, or peanut butter (you can use sunflower seed butter if you are avoiding nuts) etc. Good luck!

My Dr. said that Ginger Root capsules were totally safe and fine to take and they helped me a lot! Ginger ale always seems to settle my stomache and the Ginger Root capsules were a more concentrated, direct method of getting the Ginger. I would take 1 in the morning before getting out of bed with a few crackers and water. Then for me, I noticed they would wear off around 5-6 hrs and I would feel sick again. Once I figured this out, I would take another one at 5 hrs. to keep the relief going. It really helped me get through my first 16 weeks and then it all subsided for me and I only needed them randomly throughout the rest of my pregnancy. Good Luck and I hope you find something that works for you!
P.S. I got the capsules at Walmart and GNC.

well nothing has worked 100% all the time for me and i'm 12 weeks on my second. But try eating a light snack before bed so that your stomach acids have something other than your stomach lining to try and digest. also extra b6 may be of some help. Ginger also helps ease stomach issues. I've found that gum helps me especially mint.

Here is what I tell my patients:
1. Take your prenatals at night. Often this will solve the problem.
2. There are a couple of homeopathic remedies for nausea that are safe during pregnancy: nux vomica is the most popular, though there is also ipecacuanha.
3. Ginger tea can help calm the nausea.
4. Get a good chiropractic adjustment or craniosacral treatment. TBH, I don't completely understand the mechanism, but there seems to be a link between misalignment of the sacrum and first trimester nausea. In my experience, this often helps to dampen the symptoms to more tolerable levels.
5. If none of that helps, there is a medication (Zofran) that you could talk to your health care provider about.
Good luck!

I had awful nausea with my twins. I got Sea-Bands from the drug store. They are motion sickness bands that you wear on your wrists. BIG HELP. Did not get rid of the nausea completely but got it to a level I could live with. I am pretty sure I got them at Walgreens or Wal-Mart. Hope this helps. Hand in there.

Everyone has given you great advice so far - and from what I've experienced and read, the nausea is worst from weeks 8 to 12, so stick it out for just a few more weeks!
In my first pregnancy, I tried the Sea Bands, eating small meals, and I still threw up what seemed like all the time! I finally tried the Preggie-pops that I found at Babies-R-Us. They were like $5 for a small container of sour candies. As soon as I felt a little nauseous, I would suck on one of those. I'm in my second pregnancy now, and I bought Vicks Vitamin C drops instead (5 times as many drops for half the price) and they worked similarly. Just having something a little sour in my mouth was all it took to settle my stomach enough to function.
I also carried some type of carb snack with me (crackers, a PB & J sandwich, etc.) and as soon as my stomach felt ok, I'd eat whatever I had. Mine got worse if I was a little hungry.
Wish you the best!

There's really nothing you can do, I know it sucks but it will get better-unless you're one of the unlucky few who have nausea for 9 months. I'm 36 wks right now and I had the same thing in my first trimester, the nights were the worst! Just try to eat most of your food during the day, so all you need at night is a small meal. It helps some, but I still would throw my dinner up alot. But I swear, the day it was my second trimester, my nausea went away! I'll hope for the same with you! I've also heard cooking w/ fresh ginger will help too, but I did'nt try that. Now I'm just dealing with swelling feet, that I didn't have w/ my first pregnancy, ugghh! Good luck!!

Yeah I had it too. There were times when I felt so desperate as the nausea wouldn't go away all day and everyday. It was so difficult to eat anything but not eating anything made it worse!
Try to eat meals at regular intervals. Mine was always bad if I didn't eat anything for more than 2-3 hrs. I would then start throwing up whatever I ate. So it's always better not to leave your stomach empty at any point of time.I would eat something before going to bed also and it helped M. feel better through the night. And I would have 3-4 crackers 10-15 mins before getting out of bed.I couldn't tolerate milk. If you can , try drinking a glass of milk with dry toast before getting out of bed.
Also drinking ice cold water all day helped M. a lot.
There is nothing you can do to actually get rid of it , but try different things and see what works for you get through the day. It gets miraculously better after third/fourth month. And you are almost there.
If your nausea is really really bad you can ask your doc to prescribe medications which are safe to take. I didn't need it though. Also drink lots of water. Also another thing you can try is the motion sickness wrist bands. Didn't help M. much but I have heard it helps for lot of women.

The only thing that worked for me ( and I Know it sounds strange) was sucking on pepermints. I don't know why pepermint seemed to keep the nausia at bay, but it worked for me. Lots of luck, I have also been told to stay hydrated and stand up carefully. Lots of luck, I hope this passes for you soon.

I will third the Zofran--worked wonders and allowed me to function when nothing else helped. After it was under control, ginger candy, cold drinks CONSTANTLY-no bubbles, protein like dry hamburgers from MC'Ds along with crackers and other carby snacks all the time.
One thing I haven't seen others recommend is sour candy--which really helped me. Also, Preggo pops candy, which have a special blend of sugars, helped a bunch.
The motion sickness bands were really uncomfortable for me and didn't help a bit.
Best of luck--hopefully you'll only have it for a couple more weeks! :)

I had some motion sickness wristbands that helped me. They look like the athletic wrist bands from the 70's with a little plastic ball on the inside that pushes on a pressure point in the wrist. It helped.

With some of my kids I actually threw up, others just that awful nausea and with some one thing worked and with another that didn't work at all and something else worked but with all it took about to the 4th month to go away. One of our daughters was so bad she just was severe so they put her on Zofran ( spelling may be off ) and that did work for her. She has a weak stomach so maybe that was why it was worse but not sure. Anyhow it is just trying to find something that works for YOU for THIS pregnancy and it may not work on you with another. I do hope you find something though and that it won't last too long.

Even though you don't feel like it, EAT! It is funny - the thought of food makes your stomach turn but as soon as you eat you feel better! Eat every couple hours so your tummy never gets empty. The BEST thing to eat for pregnancy nausea is protein!! Any protein helps, so eat what you like.
Yogurt, peanut butter (soy butter or sun butter if you have allergies), hamburger, cheese, fish, beans, chicken, and milk are some great sources of protein. Keep some handy and eat it frequently throughout the day. If you are out and about be sure you have some with you, even if it just a jar of peanut butter and a spoon!

Hey J.,
First of all, congratulations!! I have two and my first one I was nauseous all the time so I managed it by eating snacks all the time. I did well and only gained 27#s so that wasn't a problem. Ginger snaps worked sometimes, but mostly just healthy snacks.
Best of luck.

Go to Walgreens, they have wristbands for sea sickness, they are called sea bands or something like that?? Sorry, don't remember..The are just material wrist bands with a plastic button on them and you place them on your pressure points on your wrists. They are fantastic! I couldn't have made it through without them!!

Good Morning J., I was lucky for a while and didn't have sickness until about 3 months with our first. Was fixing hubby steak and eggs for dinner and lost it. Hubby had to cook his own dinner's after that. The steak cooking just did me in.
I ate alot of crackers, dry toast, hot tea with ginger and that helped alot. For me it only lasted about a month and then, I ate everything and any thing. With our second son I didn't have sickness at all. I think I was one of the few lucky women that didn't get sick.
My hard times with the first pregnancy came about a wk before he was due. I broke out in a rash under my skin, like hives. Couldn't wear cloths or tight things, no bra's, underwear only long flowing gowns.. Don't touch me, Don't even look like you wanted to touch me I will HURT you Big Time....lol Labor started and the rash went away. I was allergic to our son. ( Well that's what the DR. said anyway ) Nothing like that with our second son, was easy pregnancy.
I hope your Sickness ceases very soon and you have a wonderful pregnancy.
God Bless

I had to get a prescription for Zofran from my OB. I also recommend ginger snaps, ginger tea, pretty much anything with ginger in it. Eat constant small meals. You need to never let your stomach get really empty. Don't sit up or stand up too fast.

Congrats on the bun in the oven!
I had great luck with significantly reducing my morning sickness with acupuncture. I'd have a treatment and for the next four nights I felt great and slept great. Then beginning with day 5, I'd gradually begin to feel sick again, a little more each day. So that by day 10 I wanted another treatment. Hey, 10 days between feeling bleck-y when you have a kid(s) to chase after is totally worth the $40. $4 a day for good health!
