Hi mamas,

I was wondeing if anyone had any input on detox systems or "flushes". I've been feeling a bit blah latelty, and want to start taking better care of myself. I want to start eating better, but want to start on a clean slate - no pun intended : ) I'm worried that most of these systems make you spend a lot of time in the bathroom, so I'm trying to find out which might be the least offensive so I can try it on my vacation in a few weeks.

Thanks Mamas & Happy Summer!

This was just on Dr. Oz from Oprah....he said they are a hoax. They have studied those who have done the cleansing and those who have not and there was no difference. He said eat right...lots of fiber...proper diet is the way to go.

Good luck

Hi L.,

There are some all natural cleansing systems that range from a week to longer. The shortest one I've seen is a cleanse from Garden of Life called Perfect Cleanse (check Whole Foods or Fruitful Yield for these). I can't remember if it is 3 or 7 days. You can look at it on http://www.gardenoflifeusa.com/ProductsforLife/SUPPLEMENT.... There is another one called Ultimate Cleanse that lasts, depending on how many tablets you work up to, 2-4 weeks. You can go to https://www.fruitfulyield.com/Shopping/Products/Category/.... It will give more information. If you are looking for more of a daily supplement, you can look at http://www.cindy.awarenesslife.com/index.cfm?action=detai.... The product is called Experience. It is very gentle, won't keep you in bathroom all day. But, can be used more long term than an intense cleansing. Both of the first two products I mentioned also will not keep you in bathroom as all day. I hope this information helps.

Take care!

Hello L.,
I am very much about health and cleansing. I am a RN and have had my own nutrition company. Many of the products you see on the market are solely to make money. To starve the body and drink mixtures that starve you, in my opinion, do just that.....they make you crabby, your blood sugar drops, and sometimes, you will be in the bathroom all day. You can naturally cleanse without starving by increasing fiber and drinking plenty of water. Do not increase fiber unless you drink plenty of water...otherwise....cement! The object in cleansing is to "clean" the colon. Fiber helps you to do that by naturally scrubbing the "leftovers" in your colon. You have villi in your intestine that help move your stool along....over time a bad diet can leave old stool in your colon causing sluggishness, bloating, not feeling well and being irregular. If a diet higher in fiber and water are not contraindicated for you medically by your MD, this is the most natural way without being extreme. There is never a magic pill. Always see your MD before changing your diet if you have a medical history that may interfere with your cleansing. I don't know your medical history so I will always suggest seeing your doctor before you change habits that can impact your health. hope that helps! Missy-Chicago

L., I think most things on the market are just fads. I now see Dr. Wasson (he's out of Naperville). He's a naturopath (believes in natural remedies). My husband and I started going to him in July '08 simply to try to reset our metabolism. It's a pretty detailed program and a hard one, but if are serious about getting your life back and want to drop weight and feel healthy again, I'd suggest you try to make an appointment to see Dr. Wasson. He is now a family practice doctor.

My husband has lost a total of 30 pounds and I've lost a total of 25 (within the first 2 months), but I cheated along the way so I regained 10 back in the last several months and are now on phase I of his plan. My goal is to reset my metabolism, not just to drop weight, but to keep it off.

His website is: http://www.naturalalternativemedicineofchicago.com/ and his office number is ###-###-####.

The whole idea behind his approach is detoxifying your body from all the daily toxins.

I'm still amazed at just how much garbage is in most foods we feed our body. And yeah, he's into more organic foods.

Why spend $ on those expensive things. Start a clean slate with a Fleets enema. Does the same thing and you'll be out of the bathroom in an hour or so, not all day long!

Right now I'm doing a whole body cleanse that I got from a health food store in Mt. Prospect and so far it hasn't sent me running to the bathroom excessively and I am starting to feel better. I was prompted to do the cleanse because of a sluggish liver so I agree with the advice to do the liver cleanse or even better a whole body cleanse. Also do you take a multi-vitamin? I prefer only whole food vitamins and have tried various kinds but none have made me feel as good as Superfood by Dr. Richard Schulze. His website is www.herbdoc.com and the link to the information about Superfood is https://web0.herbdoc.com/index.php?option=com_content&amp...

Good luck with whatever you choose!

Hi L..

I was apprehensive as well. I did the 7 day detox from Arbonne. Yes, I do have a business with Arbonne, but even with working the business I was hesitant to start a detox. I was surprised at how gentle it was and I felt great afterward. In fact, I just decided to do one again since I did an 8 week weight loss challenge and I felt that ridding myself of excess toxins after the weight loss would be a good idea. You can check out www.arbonne.com and look in our spa detox line. I am happy to answer any questions you may have.
Oh, I also liked that you drank it in 32 ounces of water throughout the day. Hydration is a key part of cleansing the body and often we don't get enough water. This also allowed me to feel like I had more control over how I felt or if I felt it was too strong.
Good luck.

I did the Dr. Natura Colonix cleanse. I was NOT running to the bathroom or anything, and neither was my friend who did it at the same time I did. It was pretty gentle. The only benefits I got were I no longer can stand fast food, just smelling it is now gross to me.

The best thing I did was get on Miracle Mineral Supplement. The Colonix cleanse was over $100 and although I did have some benefit, it wasn't $100 worth of benefit!

Miracle Mineral Supplement isn't a cleanse. It boosts your immune system and helps it get rid of pathogens like bacteria, viruses, etc. I think that along with a good fiber supplement and vitamins is the best way to go! I feel great!

The best part is it's only $20 for a year's supply. And there's no secret formula, you could even make it yourself if you wanted. I would go to http://www.miraclemineral.org/ and read on it. There's a book you can download so you know exactly how to use it and how it works.

So far it has helped my allergies and I'm using to treat my cat for cancer. She has gone from being lethargic and losing weight to playful and cuddly.

Whatever you decide to go with, congrats on taking your health into your own hands!

The best 'flush' out there is easier to obtain that you can imagine! Make sure you are eating 'clean' (organic, natural foods) and including enough dietary fiber each day. You also need to be exercising, both cardio and weight training. Top it off with a sufficient amount of nightly sleep (8 hours), and you should be feeling better soon.

Most of the detox/flush programs are overpriced, over-hyped hoaxes. Save your money and do it the natural way - through clean eating and exercising!

Hi L.!
Good for you to be wanting to get a clean start. Really we all need to do this almost quarterly! I use some botanically based products that are not strong and don't make you "sit in the bathroom". Another good natural detox is using lemon and purified water. Cut 1/2 lemon with 8oz of purified water and drink both in the morning and at night. I'd love to share what I use. I drink a detox tea every single day. Gets my day going and I know I am alway purging as our detoxing organs, both the liver and the kidney get clogged - literally. The bowels hold unprocessed food for long periods of time as well! Let me know how I can help you get started. Just email me your email address and I"ll be glad to share! Products are botanical and safe - plus money back guarantee so you know you are getting a great product. Look forward to hearing from you!

You may want to rule out any medical conditions first. Your doctor may even be able to recommend a flush. If everything is ok medically though, a healthy diet and exercise are the best way to feel better.
