I can't help on the Temperpedic, but I can voice an opinion on the sleep number. We've had one for more than a year, and I hate it.
We both liked it for long enough to get past the return it if you don't like it period. I think it's a couple of months?
For quite a while, it helped my husband's back, but the trip to the chiropractor helped more.
My side never stays adjusted, it seems to either inflate or deflate depending on the temp of the room, the time of day, and the button ghosts I swear we have. It got worse when we moved the bed to a different part of the bedroom. My side is now right over a vent and I have to adjust it almost every night.
Neither of us are happy with it now, even my husband says he can no longer find a comfortable adjustment.
Maybe because I'm over weight, but my back kills me every morning I sleep longer than 5 hours no matter what number I've adjusted it to.
We also purchased a memory foam pillow from the same manufacturer at the time we bought the bed. After about 6 months of struggling, I finally gave that $120 pillow to my oldest daughter.
I believe all the sizes have a thick foam ring around the outside of the air mattress, or both mattresses depending on the bed size, and I don't know about the queen, but we have a king, and there's also a thick foam piece that goes from head to foot right down the middle.
Not to give "too much information", but between the "barrier" down the middle and the different adjustments on either side, sex can be rather, well, athletic. LOL I'm tempted to use the floor sometimes. And cuddling? Unless both sides are very close in adjustment, or someone doesn't mind sleeping on the foam barrier, forget it.
Not worth the money if you ask me, all in all.
I do have a good expensive memory foam pillow, not the same one I talked about earlier, and I really like it. I make sure to flip it or turn it every night so I don't wear down one side more than another and it's really holding up well.
I don't know that you could or would have to flip a Temperpedic mattress though! Ha, that'd be a pain.
Read all the reviews you can find, and good luck.
