Texas A&M Ring Day

My son will be receiving his Aggie Ring at Ring Day this November. This is a first for us. I have some questions for some Aggie Moms who have been through Ring Day.

First, do people dress up for this? Or should we wear A&M shirts? Is there a limit to how many people can go down to the front when it's his turn to receive his ring (as opposed to waiting in the stands)? Are there any other traditions or expectations in this that we need to know about?

I appreciate any information for this big event. We're proud Aggie parents, but are going through this Aggie experience for the first time. In a few months I'll have graduation questions!

What can I do next?

People will wear everything under the sun. Honestly, there is no right or wrong thing to wear. Your son will probably just want to wear something for pictures... something he will want to look at for all eternity. I don't think there is a limit to how many people can go in, but how many people are we talking about? You don't "go down front" perse, you are just going to walk into the Alumni Center as a group. Just being there is all you need to do! If you have any other questions, just call the Association office and I am sure they will be glad to help you! Congratulations to your family and to your son! Obtaining an Aggie ring is a significant accomplishment and it is something he will cherish all his life! WHOOP!

When I got my ring 20 years ago, it was a much less bigger deal as it is now. We just stood in line in our street clothes, walked up to the table, told them our name, showed our ID, got our little box. THEN the dunking. THAT was the big thing. How you dunked your ring. A pitcher of beer at the Chicken is tradition, but 3 of us all got our rings at the same time and we went to our favorite hangout instead.

There is no dressing up, Aggie shirts as always appropriate :)

Good Luck to your son and Gig 'Em!

My daughter had a ring ceremony at Sam Houston State University last winter. She graduated in May. You can pretty much wear what you want. However, with Aggies that would definitely be A&M shirts! I'm not sure what you mean by going down front when its his turn. My daughter's ring ceremony reminded me of a mock graduation ceremony. They had a photographer there and you could purchase pictures.

Congrats!!!

No need to dress up. It's not so much a ceremony as it is a celebration, and there's really nothing formal about it. Just go and take pictures and hang out with your son. My mom wasn't able to come to mine, so I think it's great that you all are going to be there. Congrats to your son!
