both my OB/GYN and Family doc has brought this to my attention. I have had weight problems all my life. I loved it when I was pregnant with my last child I lost 50lbs. I am still eating and working out the same as I was when I was pregnant and I have gained it all back plus some!!! I have hit the mark that I was so scared to ever hit! I don't know what to do. I want to try to do this myself but since it has been 14 months and well I have went the other direction than I should of. I just don'e know what to do. I work out even more now. I eat fresh veggies and fruits. No fried foods. They have tested my thyroids everything comes back normal. I just am scared of a surgery.

So my question for everyone would be..... if you know someone that has went through this please let me know what they had to go through and what to expect if i do decide to go through this.

Thank You So Much!!

My mother had the lap band after years and years of fighting it. It did not work for her and she has many problems with it and still carries the weight. But for many ppl it works great for them. I have an aunt who also had it done and boy does she look great and is walking without canes again after being bed ridden with arthoritis at 42. If you feel you are doing everything you can and I do mean everything and still nothing works to get the weight off you need to concider the long term effects of being heavy and raising kids. If you decide to have the surgery check out the ratings of the surgeon that will be doing it. Just because he is local and does everyone in the county does not mean he is a good one. Check him/her out it's your life on that table not the doctor's.

I myself had the Gastric-Bypass almost 6 years ago and I would do it all over again, with NO regrets.

My aunt is 46 years old and recently had that surgey and has already lost 103 lbs. I dont rememb er exactly when she had it done. But she wouldn't change it for the world.

A very good friend of mine had it done last fall. It's changed her life. She had had two babies 12 months apart and was having an extremely difficult time losing weight. She had the lap band done in Sept 06 and went from a size 20w to a size 8. Actually, she's so small now, her husband would like her to go up a couple sizes now. (He likes his women with a little bit of meat on them.)

You have to do what you're comfortable with. However, if this is something that two of your doctors are recomending because they're concerned about your health, you really should look at the broader picture. Gaining 50+ lbs is very serious business and if you can't lose it yourself, there's no shame in getting help in doing it.

T.,
I have thought about doing this and talked to my dr about it. They do it at Central Dupage. But, after talking to my Dr at Copley in Aurora about it all, he informed me, and he wsa so happy about it, that now they just started a weight loss clinic at the office/hospital. I started a couple weeks ago and I love it and it really is helpful. Where do you live? You and I are in the same boat it sounds like. You sound like me xxactly. Anyhow, if you are interested, I would love to help you out. I was not sure how this was going to be, but you know, it is great. THey have a neutritionist come in and a psychologist and a Dr runs it and it is once a month from 530 to 830 on Tues. I really love it and so far, have been doing great, although with Christmas just passing, I did mess up some there, but not as bad as I could have or thought I would. I would love it if you would want more info on it. I dont know anyone that has actually had the lapband, but I do know that there is alot of footwork you have to do before they will do it. So, I am going to go with this first. I really and truly think this is going to work for me. I really do. Let me know if you are interested. And also, do you want a work out buddy? I am looking for one if you are interested in that.

My 61 year old mother in law just had this surgery November 27, 2007. To date she has lost 53 lbs. She is extremely obese with diabetes, knee problems, etc..Prior to the surgery she had to undergo a few physicals, blood work, stress test and meetings with nutritionists. So far the only complication that has risen is a small infection on the incision. With a topical antibiotic, it cleared up. I know a handful of people that have had this procedure as well as the gastric bi-pass. I can tell you that the ones who do not do some form of physical excercise end up gaining all the weight back. I too have suffered with weight issues for years. This past summer I started hiking at Starved Rock 3-4 days a week. In September I started jogging 3-4 days a week, watching the foods and portions that I eat. So far I have lost 23 lbs naturally and it is staying off. The key is having a buddy to hold you accountable. Good luck!
