What is an appropriate % to tip for housecleaning? It's been a while since I could afford this needed luxury :) Plus, they are running a special so I want to make sure I tip accordingly. Thank you!

What can I do next?

boy, I would only tip if they did something above and beyond or they were my regular houscleaner and it was the holidays.
You are already paying for their time and unlike a hair stylist, they aren't forced to make witty banter with you for the duration of the appointment - LOL! However, since you are getting a special, you could tip the difference if they really do a stellar job.

My mom always cleaned houses when I was younger.....and we also cleaned at hotels. I think many times people would just round up on the hours....or my mom would get bonuses after a certain period of time, or during holidays. If it is a service that you're paying for (and not just a lone housecleaner) than maybe you'd want to tip like you tip a hair stylist -- i'm sure the company they work for get most of the $$ you are paying. Just a thought :)

I have no idea what is "appropriate". The first time I had my current house cleaned, it was very dirty and I tipped $10 per girl (there were 2 girls). After that, when my house wasn't quite so dirty, I tipped $5 per girl. Again, I don't know if that was proper tipping etiquette or not, but that's what I did.

I'm so jealous! I haven't been able to afford having my house cleaned professionally for a while now and it shows. LOL :-) Enjoy!!

Blessings,
N.

I recently had this question as my SO's brother needed his house cleaned (he lives next door) and I was the only one that could be home in time. I called two of my friends from completely different backgrounds and they both said don't tip. One friend has another friend who currently does green cleaning for a living and she said her friend does not expect tips. The other said the only time she would tip is during the holiday. That being said, when the two ladies were finished cleaning they looked as though they were waiting for a tip. However since one barely spoke English and the other not at all - I guess will never know =(
