My seven year old son is having a very hard time learning to tie his shoelaces. Any tips at this point he is able to tie a loose knot. I am in the process of having my son evaluated for attention Deficit Disorder. He is often redirected while in class,
tend to work best when in a one on one setting. But getting his shoes tied and buttoning his school shirt has proven to be quite a task.
Velcro or slip ons!!!
I realize perhaps you want him to learn to tie the laces, but if it is an issue they do make some velcro and lots of slip on shoes/sneakers for young boys.
Maybe have some tieing/lacing tools to help him learn on something other than his own shoes, until he learns how to do it, just to avoid frustration.
Start with bigger 'laces' by using a jumproap... step on the middle and learn to tie the knees...
My son wears the velcro and is 6. I'm not worried about shoelaces yet - I don't even tie *MY* shoes (I buy them, tie them once, and then slip on)...
My daughter has ADHD. I don't know if this had anything to do with it, but she took a very long time learning to tie laces. I went with velcro for awhile. She is now 11. She ties everything in double knots and is still slow at times but she did learn at her own pace. Don't worry, he will get it eventually.
Have you tried Bunny ears??
This may sound silly but have you tried having him practice with a shoe that is not on his foot? It does take practice...some kids just 'get it' sooner than others.
