Toddler Son Has Pea-sized Lesion on Dural Layer of His Brain

My almost 3 year old son has what they are referring to as a "lesion" or "nodule" on the dural layer right on top of his brain. They don't know exactly what it is so Dr. Wellons at Vandebilt is going in to biopsy and remove it. He also has a soft tissue mass behind his eye that he was born with but the brain lesion just popped up and we caught it on his MRI scan this past July. It has not grown since then but they don't know what it is. The one in his eye encases his optic nerve and hasn't changed since birth but is in such a risky spot that our ophthalmologist doesn't want to do surgery but has us patch the other eye 4 hours a day to keep His brain from turning his eye off.

Anyone ever heard of a case like ours? Any successful brain surgery stories would be very much appreciated.

No. Nothing like this.

My 12 year old son suffers from ocular migraines. Johns Hopkins helped us.

If you have questions, ask Dr. Wellons. I would also ask him if there are any support groups at his hospital that he can direct you to.

Good luck!

No experiences...I just want to say I agree you should do your own research, look into other cases or case studies, but beware of searching the Internet until you are sick with fear.

Some doctors are better than others about explaining their findings. If your doctor is willing to share, ask away.

Best wishes.

I don't know the answer to your question, but want to tell you that I hope things go well for your son and the surgery. I hope you can find some information from Vanderbilt.
