M.F.
I would skin it, de-bone it and freeze it in usable portions for salads, soups, even to add to pastas or stir-frys.
Sunday evening my GF and I went out shopping for her new place (its temporary because she had a house fire and her home is condemned)...any way - we came home with Popeye's Chicken...and they gave us someone else's order as well as ours...now my GF took some of the chicken home - but we were still left with NO KIDDING 30 pieces of chicken!! YIKES!!!
yes, I know - leftovers - chicken sandwiches...however, would you freeze it? or would you pull the meat off the bones and chop it up and use it for something else? Don't like food going to waste....and since it's not packaged - our food bank won't take it...so that rules that out....
We CANNOT return it...we called the store Sunday evening - IF we brought it back - they would HAVE TO (BY LAW) throw it out. And we offered to pay for it - thank you very much - we are not thieves - but the manager said it was HIS mistake so we were "free to keep it." We called the Food Bank - our food bank does NOT take food that has been opened..like I said...they will take from restaurants and businesses but NOT private citizens...
I would skin it, de-bone it and freeze it in usable portions for salads, soups, even to add to pastas or stir-frys.
Make chicken pot pie.
Make a chicken casserole, freeze it before cooking it.
Pull off bones, chop it, freeze.
Chicken tacos.
I want some! ;)
I would pull the meat off and use it to make chicken salad, throw it on salads, makes sandwiches with it, buffalo chicken dip, nachos...
I'll be there in 10 minutes with biscuits, gravy, beer, and three teenagers!
:)
I would invite some friends over this weekend for a potluck...they can bring the sides, I will provide the chicken...lol! good luck!!!
You can take it off the bone and make chicken salad. Yumm.
And yes restaurants have to throw out any left over/returned food. My brother is a GM for a restaurant here and at the end of the night so much food goes right out into the dumpster, It's sad but most shelters and food banks will not take it either and by law neither can employees.
I mean you could try freezing it, but honestly, I'm not so sure about that. I think the idea of inviting everyone over for a random pot luck is the best idea! This way it goes, still tastes good and you have a great time with a random play date and friends over!
Other than that, then yeah, I guess I'd do chicken salad, chicken tacos, or make a pasta casserole with some chicken, cheese, veggies, etc. Yummy, though, I do love me some Popeyes!
I would feed it to the raccoons in my backyard. Any needy W. animals in yours?
Pull it off the bone and make chicken salad, chicken fettuchini, chicken tetrazinni, chicken chili, or put some in bags and put in the freezer, and add it to soup this winter!! You can divide it up into servings that you will actually use.
You can freeze it whole or freeze it after you have removed it from the bone. I use sandwich ziplock type bags.
Good luck to you and yours.
I would pull it off the bone and chop it into pieces for salads later on. you can also use it on pizza or make chicken parmesean with the bite size pieces. it can go into casseroles with rice or noodles. it would make really good chickensalad stuffed tomatoes. or pull the breading off and freeze it and pull out later to make soup. so many good things.
You can totally freeze it! Use small bags so you can take them out every couple of weeks or so for kid lunches, or a quick meal when you don't want to cook. I guess you could pull it off the bone and reheat with BBQ or honey mustard sauce for pulled chicken sandwiches.
**PS** - let's say you did return the food when you found out the order was incorrect....they would have tossed the food out regardless, so at least you aren't wasting food. I wouldn't want to eat at a restaurant where someone went home, and brought my food back. Ick!
Absolutely freeze it! I made a bundle of chicken parm for a potluck and went home with half. I froze it- worked great. Now understand it's not as good as fresh, however it is great for leftover night. Or, let a couple of pieces thaw and take it off the bone for a great chicken-rice stir-fry. Or add it to spaghetti sauce, or chicken-noodle casserole. Freeze it and use it a few pieces at a time-It's great free meat!
Freeze it 4 or 5 pieces to a ziploc and eat it in the future every once in a while..
To the local homeless shelter?
They accept leftover food from restaurants all the time here at ours....a friend who has a catering business takes the leftover sandwiches and rolls there....and said they are most grateful.
remove the chicken from the bones, and store it in 2 cup baggies and freeze it, just make sure to get as much air as possible out of the bag. It is good in the freezer for a few months, and you can use them in casseroles and such
.
Hi Cheryl,
How about heating it up and going out to your local homeless camp and giving it to them. I KNOW they would appreciate it!!!!!! GL
M
I would pull most of it off the bone, shred and freeze. Out of sheer curiosity, I would take 6-8 pieces and freeze them "as is" and then try to bake them back to crispiness in a week or so!
I would totally freeze it in portions to use later!
yummy, I'll be right over. ;)
Share with your neighbors.
I would just put the pieces whole into a container and freeze it.
Freeze it on or off the bone and use it in recipes later.Or - try a homeless shelter or church soup kitchen instead of a food bank. Often shelters and kitchens will take just about anything. Our food banks are surprisingly restrictive, but the shelters are more than happy to take leftovers.
Freezing it is perfectly fine. I'd freeze it and then nuke it and eat it as it is without stripping it from the bones.
Simple Chicken Cacciatore
2 large cans of tomato sauce
1 can of sliced mushrooms drained
2TBS oregano
a little salt and pepper
1 lb chicken strips cooked (I have found that the prepared ones you can get from the counters in stores work best, all the breading)
combine everything in a large pan and cook for 25-30 minutes. Break up the chicken into bite size pieces and so the breading is knocked off into the sauce. Serve over pasta! (if it becomes too thick you can add some pasta water befoe serving) Yummy!!!
using bone in chicken, follow the same above, but the chicken should fall off the bone when in the sauce. It might take a little longer also bc it is cold chicken.
Hows their chicken? The closest one to me is by the boys pediatrician (about 40/45 min) and hasn't been there that long. They have appts in a few weeks maybe I'll stop in and try it.
I'll be over to get some - Love me some popeyes and love cold fried chicken!!
My parents make a really excellent sweet and sour chicken - with Church's Fried Chicken! Yes, already cooked! They go buy a bucket and my mom pulls it all off the bone while my dad prepares the rest - so using the rest of the pieces in other dishes - is GREAT!!!
I'd freeze it or pull it off and use it in other things...
You can chop and freeze or just freeze in a zip-top bag. But it makes great chicken for a King Ranch casserole--YUM!!
I think you should return it, since you got it by accident and didn't pay for it, right? Why did you wait so long?
Then I would make chicken salad or chicken soup. (remove the fatty skin first).
