Too Young for Concert?

My daughter LOVES the Jonas Brothers and they are coming to our area. She is 7 years old and I'm debating about taking her. It's one thing for her to enjoy their music and dance around at home, but quite another to see them at a big venue. I don't know if it will be too overwhelming for her. What do you think? Too young? Would I be allowing her to grow up to fast to attend something like this? Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

I think something like the Jonas Brothers is pretty benign. She would probably have the time of her life! Something like Britney or something like that would be too much but the Jonas Brothers are pretty clean cut and try to set a good example with their behavior.

We've been taking our son to concerts (some with over 50-100thousand people) since he was a toddler. Our friends on the other hand tried the same thing and it was just too overwhelming for their kiddo. It really is an experiment, since kids are all different.

For us, we always brought/bring drummer's earplugs (they are expensive as far as earplugs go at $10 a pair) and he wears them the entire time to protect his hearing (you can hear FINE in them... have a conversation easily, still hear the music.. but they block out the upper and lower register as well as loud sudden noises) as well as gun range ear protection (which blocks out almost all noise. We also started out with outdoor venus... so it was easy easy to run around/ dance/ or leave for a less crowded area for a time

Ha, I took our daughter and a friend to see there Back Street Boys, back in the day. She liked them, but was not a rabid fan. We talked about behaviors and how loud it would be.

I took ear plugs and started her off without them and then offered them to her.. She did not take them until later in the concert.

She enjoyed it but wondered why some of the girls were screaming and crying..

It was a good experince and we had a good time..

I think she will be ok , it may be a little loud but she will love it if she likes them that much. I'm taking my 7yr old to an outdoor concert in August

Take her! You will have a BLAST!
I have been taking my daughter to concerts and plays since she was seven. We absolutely love Lifelight music festival every year in Sioux Falls, SD. 200,000 people! People even bring their babies! It is the largest free outdoor Christian music festival in the country. She has seen more concerts than most adults! We love it! Also musicals are fun too! We went to Annie and Bye Bye Birdie. She still talks about them!

I would bring her. Just bring ear plugs, because it might be a little loud.

I havn't taken my daughter to a concert (she's 9), but we took her to HSM on ice and she loved it! She isn't too young in my opinion. If you think she's mature enough to handle it, I say go for it!

The majortiy of Jonas Brothers fans are tweens. So I don't think allowing her to go would be allowing her to grow up too fast. However, a large arena and all the noise (both music and screaming fans) can be very overwhelming. You know your child best and if she's ready for this.

Another though, what time is the concert. Make sure this won't be a very late night for her.

I think it would be fun to go and see if you can get another mom to take their 7 year old too. That makes it more fun for everyone involved. Earplugs are an awesome idea and don't worry. I'm sure the concert is appropriate for the 7 to 13 year kids. I would avoid Death Cab for Cutie. I took my 17 year old and we were the only ones not getting high there.

I took my daughter and her BFF a couple years back when they were 13. There were older kids there and younger so you won't be the only one with a 7 year old.

It was LOUD!! Not just the music, but a lot of these girls scream the entire time. The girl behind us was absolutely piercing! That was my girls' only complaint. Other than that they had a great time.

The rule in our house is that you must be a teen to see a live concert. A rite of passage. :) When they were younger we took them to plays, musicals, ballet, ice shows, etc.,but behavior at live concerts is different than other events. Often even young teens are dropped off without parents and behavior can get a little out of hand. At the JB concert we went to the biggest issue was excessive rude/pushy-ness (even in a venue with assigned seats) and an overload of swearing. No issue with drugs and such.

Ultimately it is your call. Every family must make these decisions for themselves. I love that you came here to get opinions! This site is a great way to get a wide variety of information and opinions, so we can make these kinds of decisions with our eyes wide open. :)

Our kids attended concerts since they were infants and we used ear plugs. And,yes they did see the Grateful Dead, Paul McCartney, and Rolling Stones just to name a few. We also took them to orchestra type concerts and jazz. They are will adjusted young adults, have great hearing and a broad sense of culture. If you prepare your daughter for the event she will have a blast and so will you.

We took my SD to see No Doubt for her 8th birthday. She loved it, but was disappointed that she couldn't see much. We let her stand on the seat but she was still pretty short. That's the only thing I'd worry about, whether or not she will be able to see much!

Yes! Take her, she'll have the best time. I am taking my 7 year old to see Justin Bieber next month. Her BFF and BFF's mom will be coming too so it's going to be so much fun for all of us!

I'm not sure of the exact ages of the Jonas brothers, but I'm assuming they are all in their teens. I would wait, your daughter is not even 10. I'd say she's too young for all the screaming girls (teens) over some boys. I agree to listen to the music and dance around at home is different and she can "pretend" and have fun safely.
