Training My Daughter's Hair

My 2.5 year old had almost no hair until she was almost 2. Now all of a sudden she has more hair than I know what to do with. I know I want to grow it out, but in the mean time it is falling in her face. Her hair parts on the top back of her head. The top part falls forward and into her eyes. How do I train it to fall to the side or fall backward? Or is such a thing not possible?

What can I do next?

J.,
try using medium hold gel or a styling cream when the hair is damp, comb it where you want it and let it dry maybe use a barret or bobby pin ( & hope she doesnt touch it while its drying) after its dry take a comb and run it thru the hair, you will see that the styling aid acted as a setter and the dry hair should stay there. I have so many moms come into my salon with the same question and that is my suggestion. Eventually as the hair grows it will fall into where you have been putting it naturally. You may also want to try giving her a bang, this will help keep her front hair out of her eyes untill then rest grows out enough to pull back. Hope this helps.

Our youngest has a TON of hair (from birth) and it was extremely unruly at first. It was forever falling into her face. We cut bangs, and then we cut the rest of it into a chin-length bob, shorter in back and longer in front. It looks SO cute and requires only the bare minimum of styling (all I do is spray it with detangler and brush it). My original plan had been to grow it out, but her hair looks so darn cute this way that I've been leaving it at this length! (I should add that her hair is straight - if it's curly, styling product is your only hope!)

All you can do is really just pin it down constantly the way you want and eventually it will start falling the way you want it. That's what happened with my niece and it worked. Good luck.

My daughter has the same problem. My MIL suggested braids. So, now I brush her hair back and braid it into a few braids before putting her to bed. I always comb and brush it straight back and put it into pony tails or braids during the day. I don't know how long it will take, but my MIL is a lot smarter about hair than me, so I'm in it for the long haul.

I read the post from the one stylist and that intrigues me. I'm just not too keen on using a lot of styling aids on my little one just yet. She's got mixed hair and I already have to use a detangler and a cream every day. Maybe I'll try it a couple times per week.

Good luck!

Ditto what Cynthia said. I just wanted to add that washing her hair will make it less managable so try to go as long as possible with out a shampoo.
