Hi my son is 2 and he keeps stripping off everything no matter where we are we cant even get him to keep his diaper or pull up on...its driving us nuts we had to move him in to a hardwood floor room because he is not potty trained yet....we have been working on it! but we cant leave him alone for 2 mins without him being buck naked by the time we come back from even loading the laundry. We just dont know what to do. we can get him to go on the potty 1/2 the time but the rest of it he will pee on the floor then shout Wee Wee ...and claps his hands...its cute but not funny :(
I am a childcare provider and I have never had a kid do this much less my kid. Any suggestions???

What can I do next?

I don't have this issue, yet...mine is only 8 months old...but I did this as a kid...and apparently grew out of it. In the meantime, my mom called me "nudie patootie".

Hi Kellie,
I no how you feel. My son did this to me. About 6 months ago. He is now 2 1/2 it was something he is now grown out of thank god. He drove me nuts.I would have to keep putting his pull up back on at least 6 times a day. All you can do is be patient with him. My son don't like wearing pull ups that was my problem. So I went out and bought him the underwear training pants and he stopped. So that might be something you can try with him.I only put a pull up on him at night and if we are out and about. He does really well with the underwear trainers. I hope this helps you. Good Luck

Hi K.. It sounds like little man is proud of what he his doing. I have to admit I got a giggle from your post but I completely understand with it not being funny. I went through that with my daughter. Luckly, my son hasn't started it yet. Honestly, I can't remember how I got my daughter to stop. I think it was mainly diapers that she was doing it with so I moved her to pull ups and she stopped. I don't know if that will help but I think that is what I did. Now, it doesn't sounds like my daughter was nearly as hard as it is going to be with your son but maybe try Pampers pullups? They are pull on pull ups and do not detach on the sides. Maybe that could help slow him down? Sorry, I know that isn't much help but a thought..

Good Luck!

Try letting him run around the house naked & he'll get enough of it and will stop doing that pretty soon.

The only things I can think of are:
1) duct tape his diaper closed (I think this was already mentioned)
2) wearing overalls backwards so he cannot take them off
3) telling him it is naked time & he can be naked until the timer goes off (give him a few naked times a day for a while & then taper them down)

......that's all I cn think of!

...this too shall pass...

I have 3 children and they all went through this phase. I put them in overalls and jumpers that had snaps in the bottom. It work fairly well. Good luck and think of all the great stories you'll have to tell him when he is a teenager.

Have you tried using overalls? My son just turned two and we used to put him in overalls during naps so he couldn't pull off his clothes and diaper and finger paint with dirty diapers. It only takes one time of finding them in their crib "painting!" He is about 90% potty trained now. He actually started going on the potty better, by himself, when he started to figure out how to get his clothes off. He's very independent and liked being able to undress AND potty alone. We don't have to use the overalls anymore but they sure came in handy.

At night put him in a sleeper and put it on him backwards so it zips up the back. For daytime... no ideas.

Aaahhhh... the naked phase. I have four kids and all of them went through a short phase of being naked all the time and I have stories I laugh about now. (Insisting that my son put on clothes when he wanted to be "free" and running out the front door with me not too far behind and having everything off before he hit the yard and me chasing him in the yard to put the clothes back on with traffic driving by; opening up a cabinet and peeing in it and then closing it!). The phase doesn't last real long, but so many of them do it. I think its the comforts of home and mine never did it at daycares or anywhere else, just home. Can't help you much except use the accidents to correct him and tell him "No." and take him to the potty, spat his bottom just enough to get his attention, not hurt, and take him to the potty when he pees, make it clear that he can't pee everywhere, make him help clean it up. Could help with potty training. It is a cute phase and passes. Ohhh, and get out the camera. You'll enjoy showing them to him when he's much older. :)

Hi K.:
My daughter was the same way except she only stripped at home. As soon as we returned home the first thing she'd do was take off that darn pamper. One day she just stopped. If you can promise him he can strip at home and at the same time continue teaching him clothes must be worn in public it might work. Maybe when dad goes to the bathroom he can take the son along. I believe there's nothing better than showing a child, this is the best way to learn. Good luck.

Hi K.,

I had to laugh when I read your request! It reminded me of my sons who are now 17 and 15. They could get undressed twice as fast as I could dress them! It seemed like they were naked in the yard more than they were dressed at that age (we live along a highway so I'm sure everyone saw them quite often as they drove by!) They finally outgrew that stage and now it makes a lot of good teasing material for the family! Hopefully, this winter he will like to keep his clothes on better since it will be cold without them!

I'm sorry, but I had to laugh - you're right, though, it's cute, but not funny. Our daughter has never liked to wear her clothes. She was born in July so I just attribute to her being a summer baby. :) We just have a rule that she can't leave the house without clothes on and can only be nakey-pants inside our house. If he's doing it in public, I would just tell him you have to leave because he has to wear clothes outside of your house.

Our daughter has also gone through phases of taking her diaper off, and is in one now actually (she'll be 2 in 2 weeks). My guess is that he is just excited about being able to pee, and doesn't understand that it's only done in certain places. Maybe if you tell him big boys go in the potty and not on the floor, and when he does go on the floor, don't react much, just say "Uh oh! You made a mess. Time to clean it up," and he has to help clean it up, he'll start to understand. Good luck!

Good Morning K.,* giggling* Been there done that, hat in the mail!! Suggestions DUCT Tape :) We did that for a few weeks, it's a little bit harder to get undone!
I don't like poppy painting either! Nor bathing the child every little bit, washing walls,...lol Nor taking the pack N play into the yard to spray it off. :)Daughter in law put a pull up on Zane then the training pants over it, that made it a little harder to get off too.

I think your little guy could be called " A Born Free Spirit" Cute little jaybird

Good Luck & God Bless K.

I am also a daycare provider I have a little one going through that right now. I have found that putting the diaper on backwards helps. mine can't seem to reach the tabs very well and gives up after a few min. as for the clothes it's hot out and he is just a little one I don't know any place that will kick out a baby without clothes on so long as you can get him to leave the diaper on. good luck hope you find something that works for you.
