A friend of mine has varicose veins in both her legs and she will not wear shorts or dare to wear anything that would show them. She has been told that if she gets them "fixed" that she will have poor circulation in her legs. She wants the surgery but is nervous, of course. Have you or anyone you know had this surgery? What was it like? Outcome? Relieved you did it, etc... I'd like to hear from you so I can pass along to her.
Thanks in advance!!!

What can I do next?

I would say she needs to have a consultation with a reputable company. The best I know of is Vein Clinics of America. They specialize on veins specifically and I've heard only good things about them as I work in a related industry.

I had Varicose veins stripped (removed) February 07 and spider veins in April 07. I have had no problems and am glad I did it. For the varicose veins I went to hospital (for Insurance) and was put under. I was droggy the first day and had to keep bandage on for two days, then had to wear compression hose for three weeks. Spider veins were tiny needles injected that felt like sharp pinches hurts but barable and then I wore compression hose for I beleive a week. You do bruise but everyone bruises and heals different. For me it wasn't to bad at all. I went to Dr. Timothy Ryan at Vein Centers for Excellence ib Gurnee. ###-###-####.
Insurance paid for the removal of Varicose Veins but not the spider veins. Hope this helps. I see women all the time that I wanna say "Don't you know you can get rid of those?"

I had the laser surgery almost 2 years ago...practically painless, covered by insurance and your circulation is DEFINITELY BETTER. Your legs have so many other veins that pick up the slack of the closed off veins, there is nothing to worry about! It was the best thing I could've done...loved my doc (located in Highland). The worst part was being wrapped up and your leg is stiff like you're in a cast, but it doesn't last long.

Let me know if there are any other questions I can answer for you :)

Take care

I'm not sure who told her she'd have bad circulation, but that's not true. I just had surgery on both legs last summer and my circulation is fine. They even said I could have more surgery down the line if needed. Varicose veins are risky because blood clots can lurk in them, and they can cause other problems, so it's good to take care of them.
If she sees a reputable doctor she'll get the right answers.

I suffer from the same condition as your friend but my vericose veins extend down to my ankles and have gotten worse as the years have went by. I elected to have a procedure where medication is injected into the vein. I had the procedure on June 30th and have mixed emotions about how well it is doing. I was told that my legs would look worse before they look better. It has only been two weeks and I have to say that it is a slow process. I have noticed some difference in my legs but not a whole lot. After the injection your body is suppose to absorb the bad veing and I guess this takes some time to happen. The procedure lasted about 25 minutes and cost me $275 and was not covered by my insurance company, although the initial consultation was. The injections were very painful where the veins were deeper but hey I would do anything at this point to be able to show my legs again. I will not have another injection until I get the results that I am looking for. I will keep you updated as the weeks go by.

While I don't know how severe your friend's condition is, I can offer advice on how to keep vericose veins at bay and something to put on your legs so that they don't appear as bad as you think. I am not a sufferer myself but am noticing the "spider" veins. There is a natural supplement that combines the best of ingredients, including horse chestnut seed extract which is used in Europe and Asia to help tone the blood vessels and strengthen the veins. It has been scientifically researched and proven to help. I would also recommend a natural sunless tanner for her that is also natural and will tan her legs so they are darker and the veins are not as noticable.

Unfortunately, many women do suffer from this but unless they are painful, may cause some health risks down the road, etc. she may have to live with them. Getting several opinions wouldn't hurt. But for her and those of you who have had procedures done, this supplement has provided women with results and there is no reason to be ashamed, especially if you can make your legs get the tan look with out going into the sun (no lines, orange color, etc.) I am into health and wellness and highly recommend at lease these two products. They are formulated in Europe (where the standards are much higher) and made here in the US. If you or anyone else would like more information, I would be happy to provide. Much less expensive than invasive and painful surgery, but that decision is based upon the severity. You are a good friend to check for her. If I can help, I most certainly will try my best.

HI J.
I went to Vein Clinics of America, last summer for very bad spider veins. I would not wear shorts last summer, this summer I am! You do have to go for maintenance, but it was well worth it. I think I paid around $1500, then for maintenence its around $300 a visit. Im not going to say it didnt hurt, but its not too bad, some sppots worse than others. Good Luck!

One of my friends had fantastic results with a dr. in Downers Grove. She had bad varicose veins and spider veins. Her legs look fantastic! She has convinced me that I should do it - the benefits outweigh the risks for her. She had quite a few raised veins which can be dangerous. Good luck.

I will probably do it at some point... but they say those veins are superficial and should not cause circulation problems.

I went to have spider veins removed for cosmetic reasons. The doctor was recommended by another in the area. The first 2 visits were fine, hardly painful. Then I went for the 3rd - 2 weeks ago. It was SO painful. Now I have quarter-sized, deep scabs with redness around them and they're very sore. The doctor fell and is in the hospital for a week. My regular MD is booked. Besides yelling at this doctor, what am I supposed to do? It almost looks like I need sewn up! What a mistake for me...
