I have them too but do not know where to go. 10 yrs ago they wanted me to have a $10,000 surgery but could not afford it. I know one doctorn said come any time and they would put the saline in with no cost since he did not want to charge for salt water. But I did not go because I know they hurt some too. You can not swim for about 6 weeks I think. Now I am older the rest of the body has wrinkles somem and dark spots with freckles. Why bother? But I still like to get a suit on and swim with the kids. Hey L., I'm 62 years old and have 2 grown children. I developed horrible vv during my pregnancies and weight gain/loss/gain/loss and on my feet. I was a FT working single mom. I was always told I had beautiful legs (got them from my mom).

I wanted to do something about it, but, of course, didn't have the money and insurance does not cover it because it's considered cosmetic.

Then, about 15 years ago, I read about a supplement called Bilberry. I got it at WalMart. I took 3/day. Within about 2 months, I could tell a big difference. I also read about Vitamin K cream/oil. I decided to use that too. Well, it was a slow process, but painless and after about a year, my vv were nearly gone. I still take the Bilberry supplements (because they're also great for hemorrhoids) and use the Vit. K ..... my doctor told me the two products work great (if you're not in a hurry) and also it was the massage that helped too. My vv were so bad that my legs looked almost purple all over. Now I have my beautiful legs back. I noticed my legs don't get as tired anymore and they are in GREAT shape - I can wear my bathing suit and am not afraid to stand up beside any 30-YO.

Be consistent. If you choose to have an MD fix them, that's great too - I'm just NOT one for Doctors/needles/pain!

Good luck!

Hi L.,

I had terrible vericose veins which made walking and standing cumbersome. Because of that, I decided to go through with a procedure called "veinous closure". The procedure was done in an office and while I was completely awake and coherent. I was given valium to help me through and they numbed the areas they cut with something like novacane. It was a horrible and painful procedure. They cut the greater saphonous vein open near my ankle and then threaded a metal rod (which they cut to my leg length) up into the vein all the way to my groin. Then they ran some fluid in there which caused the vein to expand. Then they quickly yanked the rod back out which caused the vein to collapse. Then they made knicks all over the rest of my leg to 'pull out the feeder veins'. I have to say, some of the novacane stuff worked, but most of it didn't. I went to the Allen Aesthetics and Laser clinic and went to Dr. Bowen (I think was his name). Two years later I am still having problems (particularly at that time of the month). I would recommend going somewhere else. I've heard good things (after the fact of course) about an office in Frisco, but I can't remember what the name was. Please feel free to ask me anything you want. I posted a question two years ago when I was going to do this and no one had any info!!!! I had no responses at all. :( I wish you the best of luck and honestly , if your veins aren't painful and this is just cosmetic, I'd think again.

:) M.

My mom had a pretty painless procedure done where they "cook" the veins. I'm pretty sure it was done in Arlington. I will ask her this evening. If I forget to get back to you, please pm me and remind me to get you the information. She was very pleased.

I got a terrible varicose vein during my last pregnancy. It ran from my mid-thigh and around and about halfway down the back of my leg and was very sore at times. I saw a doctor at Baylor-Grapevine hospital(his office is on the first floor), but right now I cannot think of his name. He is a pulmonary doctor. I had 2 sessions with him where he injected up and down the vein with a solution that basically sealed the vein so blood could no longer flow through. I had to wear a compression stocking on my leg for a week or 2 after each procedure. The vein is completely gone, but still aches around that time of the month. The injections were a little painful, but worth it to be rid of the vein. Also, my insurance did not cover the cost of the injections, but it only cost a couple hundred dollars for both sessions. Also, totally worth it. Good luck!
