I have been regretting my decision of letting people pressure me into a tubal ligation 5 years ago. After deciding to look into having a tubal reversal, the time has come to go see the Doctor.I have an appointment in about 2 weeks, and I'm scared to death and overly excited at the same time! Can anyone give me some input on what to expect? What will the first appoint with the Fertility specialist be like?Maybe some questions that I need to remember to ask?

What can I do next?

Hi C.,
I'm excited for you. I would highly recommend that you find a doctor who actually has a strong desire for reversals to actually work. Some do it because that is their specialty. Others truly have a desire to see women restored to health and want to help the have more babies. I hope that makes sense. Ask what his actual rate of success is. I know there will be various factors that come into play, but some doctors have more at stake personally than others. I don't have personal experience with tubal reversals. I hope you have great success and that you are blessed with more babies!!

Good luck! I know you have been thinking about this for awhile now. When I met with our fertility doc about this versus IVF, one of the things that came up was exactly how the TL was done. Be sure to get copies of your medical records to see if it was done by just cutting, clamping, or cutting and burning (cauterization). This has a direct effect on success rates of the reversal and will decide whether or not you do a reversal or IVF. Ask about the doctor's stats/success rates as well, and even see if there are actual women you can contact who have had it done with the doctor you go through, whether it's the reversal or IVF.

I just finished an IVF cycle and it was a good outcome, though I only chose to have one embryo transferred and it did not implant. The good news is, I had 19 eggs retrieved, 12 fertilized, and 5 made it to day 3 successfully. I have 4 left frozen and will be doing a frozen cycle in January. If you do go the IVF route, there is a TON to learn about. Feel free to contact me if you have questions.

I know how you are feeling right now, I've been there. It's really hard and not for the emotionally faint. Hang in there and write your questions down beforehand so emotions don't get the better of you during the appointment. Keep us posted!

I have a friend who had a reversal done (in Texas so I don't know the dr). Her reversal was successful and she got pregnant pretty fast after they could start trying. Unfortunately, her insurance didn't cover the procedure so they had to pay for it and it was over $10,000. So pretty expensive but she has wonderful baby girl! Good Luck!!

I do not know what it will be like, but I do want to take a moment to applaud you for taking this step. I had my tubes tied at 4 years ago and I totally regret it. However, we can not afford to have it done... so we are done with having kids. Good Luck!
