We've had the same problem on occasion and I just hit the reset button on the back. You can also try holding down the on/off switch for a few seconds.
Hi moms!
Happy holidays!!
I am wondering if anyone has a VTech VSmile and has had trouble with theirs? And if so, what did you do?
Our 4 year old uses the handheld Vtech when we go to my in-laws for the long drive. And as of lately if we get it turned on, it won't turn off. But it also won't play the games while it is on. I looked up on their website and did what they told me to do, and the problem occurred again. I really don't want to get another one, we just bought this one last Christmas and have several games for it.
So I am just looking for some ideas... thanks
Thanks!! I am VERY disappointed in hearing that this is happening so much. I think that for our daughters birthday she will get the Leapster. Bums me out though because we have 10 games for the V-tech. Thanks everyone and hope your problems with it go away... lol

We bought one for my daughter last Christmas and it has just started to act up. I also have a friend who gave it to her daughter last Christmas and hers had totally quit working. She had been smart enough to purchase the replacement plan from Toys R Us and bought the Leapster to replace it. She said it is much better than the Vtech. Our unit will not turn on at times and then if it does the games will freeze or not appear at all and then sometimes it won't turn off. I have found nothing to remedy this problem and have purchased the Leapster handheld for my daughter this year for Christmas. So I really can't give you any good ideas - sorry - this probably didn't help you at all but at least you know you are not alone!
We have a handheld Vsmile too but haven't had any problems with it. I did hear that others had problems similar to yours. Have you tried taking the batteries out over night? I know that helps with some electronics. Or cleaning the battery contacts?
Our son has a Leapster and has never had a problem with it (batteries last forever, too). We bought our daughter one for this Christmas because they fight over it. I bought the Leapster originally because a lot of reviewers said they had problems with the VSmile.
I have heard of this happening PLENTY of times from my friends. I also bought one last Christmas for my 7 yr old and she loved it, until it stopped working. We replaced the batteries and it still won't turn on. I am assuming it got dropped and broke. I don't think this toy is made for wear and tear of small children.
I had a terrible time with the V-Smile! After a week the first one broke and then I returned it and got a new one and 2 weeks later it broke again. I just gave up at this point.. I puchased a different handheld game for my son. I was very dissapointed in this product and wrote the company several times.
My son is 3 1/2 and plays with the hand held and stationary Vetec smile. He plays hard with them and so far we have had zero problems. The games have held up very well. Good luck. Unfortunately you may have received a problem set.
i bought my son his for his birthday and we haven't had any problems with it. and that was 6 months ago. i just bought him the pocket one for christmas hoping that we have the same luck. and i have heard of alot of other people having preblems too.
