Hi Moms,
Does anyone know how old your child should be before you stop washing new clothes before they wear them?
My daughter is 9 months old. Any advice will help!

What can I do next?

Wow, I never considered stopping! I wash my own new clothes before wearing and will always do the same for my kids at any age. Besides the fact that they could be tried on there could also be chemicals or odors from packing/shipping etc. or dust from hanging around store racks and shelves...

Since I never know who has touched them in the store or possibly tried them on I always wash new clothes before anyone in our house wears them.

This is something that really depends on the child. I was a born slightly early (6 & 1/2 weeks) so my mom continued to wash my clothes between the time they were bought and I wore them for a long time (I was sick a lot the first 7 years of my life). As I got older and I was given the chore of laundry, I continued to do it for anything that wasn't in a package such as socks and underwear. After all, you never know what anyone has and some of it can be passed if there hasn't been a long enough time between someone trying it on and you or your child wearing it. Maybe I am germaphobic but it helped a lot with me and is something that I continue to do even now that I'm in my 30's.

I am 51yrs old and still to this day wash any new clothes that i buy before ANYONE wears them. you never know who has touched them, tryed them on, where they were stored in the stockroom, etc. etc. Working in retail i can tell you that as much as they try to keep stockrooms clean and orderly, things do end up on the floor sometimes or near a trash bin. many people handle them before they even get out to the floor for sale where the customers can then have a hand on them. i'd say keep washing! :)

Hi there-
I think you should always wash before wear... you never know who has handled the clothes or if they've fallen on the floor etc.... I always like my kid's clothes to smell fresh and like home :)
I wash all my new clothes before wear too.
