Sounds like you are describing something like Pipa had for the Royal Wedding.

Hi Moms,
My brother is getting married next month and although I am not in the wedding party, I want to get my hair done. My son is the ring bearer an I will be walking with him, so I want to look good. I was thinking of curling my hair in big waves and then having it professionally pulled back so it's full and loose in the front and then pulled into a low ponytail or loose bun in the back. i don't want a traditional sprayed updo (aka "toddlers and tiaras) nor do I want the whole "undo". Maybe a more conservative "undo"? I want to bring a picture of this since this is the first time I am seeing the stylist and I don't want to take up too much time. Can you guys reccomend a website or a picture you recently saw that captures this?

Look at red carpet hair, the oscars and what not. Thos girls are glamorous without looking pageanty
I found some really neat hairdos on cutegirlshair.com. They have lots of pictures and how to videos so you might actually be able to do your hair yourself. They do have some really silly styles, but the braids are pretty amazing too.
Good Luck
Google Eva Longoria. She has a hair do somewhere that is loose curls in the front and pulled up in the back. I saw it when I was looking for me for my friends wedding since my hair was layered in the front and longer in the back.
