B.K.
If I'm bored I go on there and look at the postings under "humor." The stuff on there cracks me up! Sometimes I look under "food" and find things to cook for dinner. And that is about all I do on Pinterest.
My friend showed me & has let me sign in under her account.
She wants me to join.
I did and perused the site.
But what exactly do you do on there? Just get ideas?
TIA

Just get ideas and more. You can download a PIN IT button and everytime you come across an interesting article on a website , you can 'Pin It' to your board(You click on the Pin It button you have downloaded on your browser and it lets you choose the image you want to pin). You can save it under a board you have created(You can create different boards for different categories- for example - home decor ideas, Recipes, kids crafts, christmas decoration ideas etc etc) Once pinned, if you go back on your board and click on the image for the pin , it will take you to the website. Also, you can re-pin others pins(For ex: If I happen to see your pin and like it, I can re-pin it to a board I created for myself) Or if I like many of your pins and they are exactly what I am interested in , I can choose to 'Follow You' so whenever you add a new pin to your board, I will know about it.
So basically it's your online resource for doing the same thing you did before internet - browse through magazines/newspapers and cut out the articles/recipes etc that you like and want to save it for later. Except this is online , so no cutting and collecting pieces of paper. And all the ideas you have saved(pinned) are all available to you under boards(categories) you have created on the Pinterest website. It's free , so all you need is a username and password :) Hope this helps.
It's really like an online magazine, seemingly targeted at (mostly) women.
Lots of fashion, recipes, entertaining, decorating, exercise/diet and parenting ideas.
You can "pin" things you see online to different "boards" just like you would physically clip photos and articles from a magazine and attach them to a bulletin board or put them in a folder.
I think if you enjoy magazines you will enjoy pinterest.
I like it, but I tend to search for specific things (today I searched "Nutcracker Ballet themed Christmas tree" for example) and I like to look at specific categories, like DIY, because THAT's what I'm most interested in.
It also takes a little getting used to, it's not super user friendly.
It took me some time to figure out how to make my OWN boards, and how to choose who to "follow" or not.
Play with it a bit, you'll know soon enough whether or not it's worth your time :-)
I mainly use it to look up recipes. It's much faster than browsing several different recipe sites because the pictures come up in the pinboard format.
I also like it for Christmas present, halloween decorating & costume ideas.
Just another thing to suck up your time :)
I "like" & it saves everything I like instead of pin it or create boards.I love it they have gorgeous decor ideas me love the country decor, educational information, deserts yummy I have a list that I plan to try, have tried 2 dinner recipes & they weren't good,if I could crochet/knit they have great ideas,it's just something to look at & it's a I must try that or get your own inspiration to do something for yourself or gifts for others,But really theres alot on the site that have me thinking whose behind all this moms who get paid to sit at home to dream up of these & whip them out on the site
I have one page for Christmas ideas (both gifts for the kids and friends, and also decorating ideas). I have a page for ideas for the kids for crafting and ideas for my garden. I have a recipe page, and also a home decor page (with decorating ideas that are not seasonal). I also have a page for an office remodel we are planning with things I've seen that I like.
I use it mostly to keep track of digital images of things I might like to try or do and then also cooking.
I don't use it but my 17 yr old LOVES it. She has made some really awesome holiday crafts, etc.
I guess the main thing is her virtual business class of 24 ( at her highly ranked high school) students chose her idea as a virtual business which has some link to Pinterst for avid Pinterist lovers.
At the end of the semester they are taking the idea to a holdings company for review to see if there is interest in investment. Not bad for a "CEO" in a high school class!!!
I still enjoy the ideas she brings for decor and recipes!
