When asked what is your strengths and weaknesses what do you say?

My strengths are: I am a people person and get along with everyone. I am laid back and don't get upset about most things.

Weakness: I can't spell and I keep a dictonary on my desk to help me out.

So What Happened?

I am doing the interviewing for our new intern. This is a question that I like to ask. Even though this is a popular question many people have problems answering it.

In a job situation, the best thing to say for weakness is "Oh, my strict attention to detail and perfectionism"! ;)

On a personal level, I would say that my strengths are the ability to "read" people from the get go, my loyalty to my friends, my sense of family, and the ability to think clearly and logically.
On the weakness side: procrastination (better now that in the past), aversion to filling out ANY type of paperwork, I'm a soft touch for an underdog story OR a sob story, and a very real and deep appreciation for anything that combines chocolate and peanut butter.

p.s. Here's a better interview question: What are the last 3 things you've read? (Speaks volumes about a person - no pun intended!)

My strengths are that I project that I am a very outgoing person, that I speak my mind, and that I sincerely care about how others feel.

My weaknesses are that I am not very organized, that I tend to procrastinate, that I really have a lot of social anxiety ( I just mask it Very well!) and my biggest weakness is that I do not have a lot of patience...I wish I had more patience and dislike that I am moved so easily to anger as not much good can come from it.

A good thing to do in an interview is to admit a weakness but then use a story to illustrate how you have worked on it OR admit a weakness that many people might see as a strength.

When I first read the title "What is your weakness" I immediately thought diet coke :)

You should never give a real weakness in an interview. Your weakness should be something like - I am superorganized - and I am always running late getting home at night because I must straighten out my papers before I leave my desk.

Or, my weakness is that I am always 5 minutes early to everything - people then get upset because I am on time and they are running late.

That sort of stuff.

In terms of an interview - you will NEVER want to say:
"I am a big procrastinator, anxiety ridden and stubborn" - Sorry Amanda G. But it just won't get you the job.

For interviewing interns - focus on study habits, grades and desire to do whatever will make a boss happy - it's good to learn that early.

Strengths: I am very organized, a self starter, and a creative problem solver.

My biggest weakness is that I am sometimes a little OCD and take on everything myself in order to have it done "right."

Weakness: I am a decision maker. I know - this can be a strength too, but not always when I am working in a "team" type environment. Sometimes it can be hard for me to make a comprimise on something that I see as the "correct" way.
I can also sometimes overthink things and thus miss an obvious answer while looking for a more complex one.

these would be my "interview" answers. In reality, I CAN be a control freak!

Great question!!

Strengths: I'm very easy going, and very easy to get along with. I'd rather hug it out than be confrontational. I'm finally learning to have PATIENCE. I like to lead by example, and teach through positive reinforcement.

Weaknesses: Smoking, drinking (rarely, but still), CURSING!!, I have a short temper sometimes, and... gossip magazines ;)

Still trying to get a hold on my weaknesses, but I will never, EVER give up my gossip magazines!!

Is this for an interview? If so, sounds good. we all want to play down our weakness and demonstrating how you help strengthen your weakness is good.

I have a hard time delegating as I want to do everything myself but find I make a list of priorities and choose what I can do and then delegate the rest. Shows my boss my team spirit and problem solve blah blah... :)

Are you referring to job interviews? I know this tends to be a common question for interviews so you really need to be cautios in the way you answer, but I see nothing wrong with your answer.

I actually told my boss during my interview for an advertising company that I am not that artistic. I also told him that I have a tendency to run late for meetings. Yes I know it was a bit risky, but I got the job and I'm still here almost 8 years later. I have become much more artistic and I enjoy building the ads now. I don't typically show up to client meetings late, but I still have trouble making it to the sales meetings on time. At least I was upfront about it.

My strength is the ability to love nearly everyone. I love helping. If you give me the time I would go to the moon and back for anyone.

weakness. I get side tracked with stuff. I get too much going on my plate for three people and try and do everything myself. I can not ask for help well.

My thorn is I take everything that is not right, out on my hubby. He is the only one I do this with and I hate it. He loves that I feel ok using had as my ears to yell at. I do not think it is ok. He just understands and will let me do it.

I always said my weakness was that I get bored easily and hate down time. I hate sitting around waiting for work or having no work to do. If I'm going to be away from my family for over 10 hours a day at least, I want to be doing something.

As for strength, my ability to not take things personally and to treat everyone with respect.
