What Should I Expect to Pay for 3 Yr Old Ballet Recital Dresses?

My daughter is in a 3 yr old ballet class. I figured the the dresses would be reused. I shouldn't be expected to have to buy it? $148 seems pricey, right?

What can I do next?

I'm not sure about the schools around here but I grew up dancing with a studio and for every recital we had a new dress/costume. That meant a costume for ballet, jazz, tap, and baton twirling. It gets pricey!!

T.,

I TOTALLY feel your pain. My 21 year old daughter started dancing when she was 3 and the first recital I just about fainted regarding the cost of the costume (that will only be worn once!!)!!

Unfortunately, that price is about right -- a little on the high side; but, not too much. This is just the first of many gasps on your part. The older she gets, and the more numbers she dances in, the more costumes she will have and they each cost $$ and are only used ONCE!.

My daughter danced for 15 years. It was one of the best things she ever did. It was expensive; but, I would give anything to be back there again watching her!

Take a deep breath and enjoy the show!

Hi T.,
My 3 year old's dance studio is really good at keeping the younger (non-Company) dancers in costumes for no more than $65. And, they allow you to pay in installments. We did the recital last year, and the dresses came in with a really irritating "scratchy" neckline and all the girls were miserable. The owner of the studio took them to a seamstress to have them corrected and didn't charge us any extra for the work. My daughter uses her "Belle" dress as dress-up now and she also wore it for Halloween. This year, our costume is a Sleeping Beauty dress and we'll probably continue to use it as well.

All this being said, yes, it does get pricey. I danced and figure skated competitively for 16 years growing up and I KNOW that my parents gasped every time a new round of expenses came up!

Best of Luck!
C.
