What Was That?! Warning....TMI

Okay, quick question for all you experienced mamas out there, anyone experienced a large quantity of discharge during sex while pregnant?
I am currently 36 weeks pregnant and last night I really thought my water broke during sex. My DH and I were doing the deed and there was a rush of fluid that was very warm and went everywhere. I've never ever had anything like this happen before and my DH thought that maybe I had peed on him. I didn't...there was no smell. We immediately stopped what we were doing and I called my doctor to check. The on call doctor told me that since it was during sex there really is no way to know what it was, but that it could have just been a large quantity of discharge. I didn't have any signs or symptoms of labor (no continous dripping/leaking, no contractions) and my doctor told me to call back today if I started having any contractions or to go to L&D if I felt a large gush or started a continous leak/drip that lasted longer than just a few minutes. Has this ever happened to anyone else? Do you know what may have caused this?
I told my dh that I feel like labor is close to coming....I have an overwhelming urge to keep the house neat and tidy at all times, and my sex drive has gone through the roof (these are the same things that happened a week or so before my other 2 were born).
Any advice would be great....I think I'm worrying myself to death!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

My question to you ladies who have experienced female ejaculation...how much was there? The amount of fluid last night was quite large, large enough that sheets had to be changed and the soaked mattress had to be flipped. It also puddled on my husband (as I was on top) and it went everywhere, is that normal?

Most likely you had your first 'squirting' experience. Kinda the female version of ejaculation.

ETA...............................................

For me it can range from a little bit to give my husband a shower. It can also happen multiple times for me. I will say that the first time it happened I was pregnant, and i also thought my water had broke.

Honestly? I'd go to triage. They can do a simple test to determine if it's amniotic fluid or not.

So embarrassing, but this happens to me just about every time we have sex, just as Mom2Many's link says. Over the years I've learned how to have other types of orgasms during sex, but sometimes I just need to "gush."

My guess would be female ejaculation, but isn't it possible for your OB to determine whether or not this is amniotic fluid, just to be safe?

ETA - After reading other responses, I'm really starting to feel like the freak of the group.

I think you have to listen to your OB and trust him/her to help you determine whether or not this is your water breaking. However ...

Everything you described sounds exactly like female ejaculation to me. The consistency is just like water (not slipper or thick and creamy or anything else, just plain water), and there is no smell. It can be a little or a lot (wet sheets, wet mattress, etc).

If you weren't 36 weeks pregnant, I would tell you this was female ejaculation without a doubt. Since you are pregnant, better safe than sorry.

Good luck with the rest of the pregnancy!!!

There are some women who do ejaculate a lot of fluid. I'm not one of them. (I'm kind of glad, I have to admit...)

However, it sounds like this is the first time it has happened. If I were you, I'd go in during office hours and ask the doctor to check you. I also wouldn't have sex for a while. You really want to get to 38 weeks...

Good luck!

Go get checked...TODAY. It could have definitely been amniotic fluid. Better to be safe than sorry. You do not want to risk infection.

I've had no personal experience but I've read that it's possible for the sac to have a leak and then seal it's self back up. I think I'd go to labor and delivery and have them check. It's common for women to go in thinking that they're in labor. It's no problem for you to go in.

I also wonder what the consistency of the discharge was. If it was the consistency of water, i.e. not on the thick side and slippery then I'd be even more sure that it was possibly amniotic fluid. The purpose of a sexual discharge is to lubricate; hence the fluid is slippery.

My midwife gave me test strip (of paper, like they use in labs) when I was pregnant to use in case I thought my water had broke. The paper was to turn blue if the fluid was amniotic fluid. You might talk to your doc again; maybe ask for this test strip (or a couple). And if you have any more of this leaking, definitely go in and see the doc. Otherwise, you've already received a good variety of advice below.

TMI indeed.....only advice is read a couple of books on what happens during pregnancy. When in doubt, re-read the books. If still in doubt, consult your OBGYN.

just wanted to tell Gidget she is not a freak just lucky that she and her partner enjoy themselves so much,

I agree if you weren't pregnant i would say female ejaculation too,

Although I have found personally that that only happens when i am on my back with my hips slightly raised. if you were on top and pregnant then i would probably get it checked.
