Where Should I Spend a Long Weekend? Nashville, Huntsville, St. Louis...?

I'm trying to plan a long weekend w/o the kids (just me and my husband). Although I've lived in the Memphis area for several years, we've never really gone anywhere. I'd like to stay within 3-5hrs driving, but have no idea where to go. Does anyone have any recommendations? Where should I go? What should I do while there? Where should I stay? Any/all help from those that have traveled to some of our neighboring cities would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

What can I do next?

My husband and I had a wonderful New Year's weekend in Bowling Green , KY last December to celebrate my birthday. It's about a 4 1/2 hour drive from Memphis and an easy drive. Very scenic and there are many hotels, Bed and Breakfasts and a great selection of restaurants and things to do. I was about 2 months pregnant at the time, so we opted to stay at Bed and Breakfasts and relax mostly ( our first B&B experience!) . Check out the following website for info about the B&Bs http://www.kentuckybb.com/ . This association has a very intensive inspection process which is something you want. I highly recommend the Victorian House. We did visit Mammoth Cave one day -- they have several tours available. Another place we have gone is Hot Springs , again just to relax. Look up Lone Cedar cabin -- it's off the beaten path, but very nice for a weekend away. Hope this helps!

Nashville is good. I have stayed at the Holiday Inn by Vanderbilt and it was good. Cheeckwood property, in bellemead, is beautiful - I would definitely go there.
Even closer, Little Rock is two and a half hours away and has a lot of things to offer. The Presidential library, a river market, its own peabody hotel, Central High School museum, and Pinnacle mountain. The downtown has many hotels and a good nightlife.

Depends on what kind of atmosphere you want and whether you want to "do" stuff or just relax. There are plenty of things to do /places to see in Nashville. Huntsville has the space center, Chattagnooga has a great aquarium. Hot Springs is a little over 3 hours away and is a slower pace if that is what you want. Some of the nicer old hotels include the Arlington which has large outdoor hot tubs fed by the hot springs, the Embassy Suites is also very nice. You can get a good overview by searching the city and tourism of any of the places you might want to explore.

Good for you guys!!!
As one Mom said - it really depends if you want to be active or just relax. We've gone to Batesville, AR for a long week-end and just taken little trips to Mammoth Springs, Lake Charles State Park, etc. We've also been to St. Louis (4 hours) and have taken a 2 hour boat cruise along with a trip to the tip of the gateway arch. They also have great museums there. By all means just have fun

I would choose Nashville. And be sure to go to the Opryland Hotel. It's absolutely breathtaking at Christmas.

We go to Nashville fairly often because my sister-in-law lives there. There is tons to do there especially at Christmas time. Someone else had mentioned going to see the Opryland hotel and they also have the Rockettes Chrstmas Spectacular. I haven't been to it in Nashville, but my family used to go see it in NYC when I was growing up and it is a great show. If my kids were a little older I would take them to it too, but we are planning another trip there next month to see the Grinch Ice Show that is at the hotel and to go shopping at Opry Mills. There are all kinds of tourist attractions aroudn town you can visit anytime too. Hope you have a great time wherever you decide!
