A very nice person here suggested Smokey Hollow in Wisconsin.
We are going for the third time this year.
We love it ,great bathrooms, super clean and private !
Heaven for kids....google it they have lots of info on their website.
I camped as a kid and never as an adult. I am looking into taking our family camping (tenting) for the first time. When I was a kid, we went to Lithia Springs at Lake Shelbyville in Illinois. I would love to go there, but all the beaches are closed due to high water. I really want to be able to go the beach on a nice lake and rent a pontoon for a day or two also. Electricity is a must and decent showers!!! I am willing to travel 3-4 hours from Plainfield, IL (which is about 45 minutes southwest of Chicago). Any suggestions?

If it wasn't for your driving time restrictions, I would say canyon lands. HOLY AMAZING. I'm not a desert camper, but I'd go down in a heart beat if I could!
Try Rock Cut State Park in Rockford. Great swiming beach, as well as lots of hiking, fishing and boating rental options. Only down side is there are only a couple shower facilities for the entire campground, and pit tolites, are well..the pits!
Do a Google Search "camping in Illinois."
There are camping websites.
