Window Dressing

My kitchen has 2 windows that I would like to put curtains on (for decoration, not privacy). The over the counter window is the basic window that most people have in kitchens (usually above the sink). For this one I am thinking of some kind of valance, maybe. For the second window I am stumped. The window is in the dining area of the kitchen and is tall and narrow, 1'4" x 4'10" and is right next to the back door, so no room for a panel on one side of the window. Right now the window is naked and we love the light that comes in, however, it looks like it needs something. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

For the narrow window I would do a scrim curtain with rods at the top & bottom in a light fabric (which will allow light) that coordinates with your sink window's valance.

I would make a matching curtain from the same material or very close and use a spring loaded rod and just slip it in.

I would make it short, not regular length of a valance. maybe just 8 inches long from the rod.

If you want the tall skinny one to make more of a statement or sense of balance, you can make the window look wider by using two long panels on either side.
If you like the skinny aspect but just want to dress is up a bit you can do a long panel scrunched up with two ribbons

I would put a full panel over that awkward narrow window, make it look like a nice window.

I have narrow windows in my living room. I have white wood shutters on the lower 1/2 & a full curtain pulled/swagged to one side....so it hangs like a swagged valance on the top & then drapes down the side of the window.

Love it! If you buy one curtain set, then you could hang the valance over the sink....& hang the panel on the dining area window. Mount a holdback/tieback up higher on the frame to swag the panel.

OR you could take that single panel & gather it up like a balloon shade!
