Wall pops has window film, I just covered my back yard sliding glass door with some and love it. Best of all if I change my mind it comes right off with not damage or effort.
HI All~
We have 2 sliding glass door that are really wide. I think it's 8 feet... definitely not standard 6 foot ones. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to cover these? On one of them I need something that will also help with keeping out the light. With the other one I don't really need to darken the room.
I don't like plastic vertical blinds and I don't have a fortune to spend on curtains (do they even make curtain this wide??)
Thanks for you help!
Thanks for all of your suggestions! I ended up ordering from overstock. I've never been unhappy with anything I've gotten there, but I'll let you know how these turn out. I don't know why I didn't notice the wider length on the curtains... Justblinds.com might be a great option for the roller shades. We do use both sliders often and do get a lot of sun with one.
Thanks again!

I love white Plantation Blinds! The slats are about 2" wide, and they look great with any kind of decor you have. Usually there made of a wooden/plastic material, so the look more like wood than plastic. I know they are not cheap, but I purchased them for our living room and continue to love them!
Covering windows, especially large slider is never cheap - sorry. Getting custom drapes/plantation blinds etc. from JC Penneys or any window covering store is the most expensive. Two other choices are getting a curtain rod, install it and buy multiple panels of curtains from somewhere like Bed, Bath and Beyond. BBB has room darkening curtains/curtain backing too and they are more expensive than regular. Lastly if you know someone who sews, you can get fabric from a fabric store (again blackout fabric is more expensive) and sew a simple rod pocket for the curtain rod to go into (don't forget to hem the rest of it so there's no unraveling). Then you can hang them! I'd recommend using a fabric you can wash in the washing machine-no dry cleaning. None of the options are really inexpensive, but that's the nature of the beast. Good luck.
I'd just put a topper on the one that doesn't need to darken the room, if you have to. We had our windows made with the darker glass so we didn't have to have curtains if we didn't want. With the ones that you want to darken, do you use those doors often? If not, maybe you could dress it up as a window and use drapes to darken the room and not have anyone use the doors.
I have screens like you see in restaurants. They roll down like a shade, and keep the sun out. Very inexpensive, and out of the way when not in use. I think I got them at Just Blinds.com.
OMG--Have you seen the shutters they make for sliding doors? Beautiful!
We've had drapes to the side, crappy vinyl vertical blinds, a wide valance, nothing...now nice vertical blinds.
If I had just done the shutters in the first place! Grrrrrr.......
They also make panel tracks/sliding panels which are nice.
If you're not wanting curtains or blinds, I suggest looking into window film.
It's a UV blocking window treatment, kind of like having the windows on your car tinted, except not so dark. It really helps.
I got some curtains from Bed Bath and Beyond. I think with the rod they were under 50. They are lined so they are room darkening and have tie backs.
They work well because they get out of the way when you need them out of the way. I had the same concerns as you did and at the time this was the best I came up with.
We got these for our sliders. Love them and they were very economical:
