Wondering About Volvo Station Wagons

Anyone out there who has or has had a Volvo wagon who would like to comment on it? I know a lot of people are passionate about Volvos, but it makes me nervous that they are not Japanese--are they reliable? Expensive to fix? For the record, I'd probably be buying a used Cross Country, but I'll take input from people with any model.

I have an s60 sedan volvo. I love my volvo!! I've had it a year now and it's been super reliable. We bought all the possible warrenties on it becuase of the cost of repairs. Volvo dealership costs $90 an hour for repairs. Not sure how that compares. I've only ever driven luxury cars.

The whole reason we went with the Volvo was for all the safty features. That car has so many extras a lot of other car makers don't have. Plus, becuase of the safty features, when we added this car to our insurance and took off a 6 year old car. My insurance only went up $8.00 for the entire year. Typically when we buy new cars it goes up hundreds but not this time.

We are very pleased with the car and I love the winter traction control it has. Great for those icee days we have here.

Good luck with your choice.

My husband sold Volvos and says they are GREAT cars. They last forever and are known as being one of the safest automobiles.

People who buy Volvos seem to stick with them, therefore there is less wiggle room on price negotiations than other cars.

I currently drive a V70 volvo station wagon and I will never drive another car as long as I have children to haul around! A year ago, I had a horrible car accident in a volkswagen passat station wagon and totaled it with my kids in the car. Everyone was mostly okay...what an utter miracle. My 5 year old passat kept us very safe so we were going to buy another one. Volvo was having a sale so we checked them out and did lots of research and ended up buying the volvo. It ended up being a little cheaper with the special they were running and the safety features are out of this world!!! You should go to a dearlership and ask someone about the safety features and then decide whether or not to buy the wagon. I've had mine for a year and a half and have only done regular oil changes. Repairs on volvos are rare as long as you do your regular maintenance. If you had to make a second choice, I would definitely go with Volkswagon. Good luck, but I whole heartedly believe you can't go wrong with Volvo!!!! Safety first!

OK...I'll admit my age (42), and the last time I got to drive a Volvo was in 1982! :)

We were in Alaska and my parents' friends had a Volvo. Since I had my driver's license, they graciously allowed me to take their kids (13 and 7, I think?? hard to remember) and my sister and go to the movies to watch ET. (Think they got tired of taking us and driving back and forth...sold out 4 times before we actually got to see it!) but I digress....

Volvo's are VERY SAFE cars, and they don't require much maintenance and even fewer repairs. Just don't forget to change the oil, or that'll cost a fortune! LOL (that's what my mom's friend Sally did, and it blew their engine! YIKES!)

If my husband and I could afford one, I'd want one!

L.,

I have an XC - 90 (suv), but initially I thought I wanted a cross country wagon. Then when I saw that the cross country wagon wasn't very full efficient I ended getting one of their regular wagons. I LOVED the way it drove, but after two weeks I took it back..it was just too small. My daughter was 2 at the time and her feet constantly touched the front seats, and once her Britax car seat was in the second seat there wasn't much room on either side of her. I LOVE the SUV...it has just the right space for our family, it drives like a car for me (no bouncing around). The maintenance is definitely more expensive. I still think the cross country is a cool car and I test drove a couple and they drove really well. K.

I have the xc-90 (SUV) and absolutely love it. It is a bit small for our big family and my husband wants to look into other cars but I do not want to let it go!

Volvos are made great--I think the Swedes do a fine job making a car. We have had very little relaibility issues and we've had the car for almost five years. The one bummer is maintanance is pricey but so are all European cars.
