You got a good answer below (the first one). And I thought your comment about being blonde was funny. Thanks for the giggle.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troll_(Internet)

It is a person that goes on the Internet, through a forum, blog, etc.. And stirs up trouble, or makes false claims on purpose, asks ridiculous, questions..

Essentially wastes our time and takes up space.

They are usually lonely insecure littler people with no lives of their own.

There are trolls and then there are people who "troll". A troll is what Laurie is describing. We had one last night who used terrible spelling, asked innane questions, or just wrote stuff that made absolutely no sense. Thankfully, the posts were so short and ridiculous, and there were so many in short succession that no one took him or her seriously.

Then there are people who come on here and "make up" their lives. They pull you in and get you to want to help them. Then they start mixing up their story (hard to remember what to say when nothing's true anyway.) That's acting trollish. Especially when they start asking questions to rile everyone up.

Then there are people who try to beat other folks up whom they don't like, and ask trollish questions to make someone look bad. Some people who answer don't realize that they are being "used" to beat up another poster. Some do and jump on the bandwagon. Reminds me of hens and their pecking order. Have you ever seen hens gang up on a hen and peck her hard until the pecking order is established? Ugly...

Long explanation... happy holiday to you!

Generally it is intentional flaming by someone who is not an active member of a board. Usually it is amusing but last night we got a really lame troll.

I guess flaming is amusing, spamming is lame. :p

At least to me the problem with trolls on this board is they seem to have a nasty habit of showing up when someone really needs help. Most of us can't help but feed the troll and the person in need tends to be ignored. Other than that they are harmless.

Kellhy's response made me smile.

Great example of a troll! Rude, inflammatory, and with poor spelling. There's your troll!
